Hong Kong - February 2006
I still think that Hong Kong is my favorite city in Asia.  I've expanded my repetoire by visiting several others, but all of the cliches about its vibrancy still ring true for me.  A friend from Portland came over, this time, and I was able to act as tour guide on this particular visit.
This is a view of Hong Kong Island taken from one of the many Star Ferries that cross the harbor.
This is the I.M. Pei-designed Bank of China tower.  It's height is eclipsed by the new Two IFC Tower, but not its uniqueness.
Hong Kong Park.  This is a very nice green space and includes a koi pond, an aviary, and peaceful landscaping--all in the heart of Central.
A view of Hong Kong Island's famed concrete jungle, taken from Victoria Peak.  The Two IFC Tower is to the left.
A view across Victoria Harbor to the Kowloon side.  A massive land reclamation project can be seen in the foreground.
A view of Hong Kong Island taken at night from Aqua, a bar at the top of One Peking Road.
This is the largest seated Buddha in Asia.  It is located on Lantau Island which is also home to Asia Disney and the airport.  It's an interesting contrast.
This is a typical Chinese "wet" market where perishables are sold daily.  This particular market is on Graham Street in the Hollywood Road area.  Unrefrigerated meat-butchering is widespread.  These markets are very common in SE Asia and I would guess where SARS and bird flu pandemics will start.
