Singapore - January and March 2004 (Part II)
More than any city on earth, Singapore's endless diversions, modernism, and gentle totalitarian government reminds me of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World."
A daytime view of the Esplanade Theaters on the Bay.
This is the MerLion, a mascot for Singapore that was created in 1964.  This statue spills water from its mouth at regular intervals and sits at the entrance to the Singapore River.
This is one of the many traditional Chinese medicine shops located in the Chinese Quarter of the city.
The Singaporean Parliment Building.  There is rule-of-law, but penalties are harsh.  The upside is that crime is non-existent in the city-state.
A curious otter mugs for the camera at the Sentosa Island Aquarium.
This is the interior of the Thian Hock Keng Temple (Temple of Heavenly Happiness) that was built in 1839.
This is one of the many endangered turtles that are housed on Sentosa Island.
This is part of a series of posters created by the government to discourage people from doing drugs.
