I think Babylon 5 is the greatest show in the universe!!! *S*Babylon 5 is the greatest sci-fi TV show to ever appear on American television. Babylon 5 is filled with a complex assortment of storylines, science fiction, plot twists, themes, and charcters. Let us not forget the creator, JMS, as well as the talented and great looking cast, crew and everyone else involved with the creation of a BENCHMARK in American science fiction television. Babylon 5 begins with the 2 hour pilot episode: The Gathering. A brilliant set up and prologue to a complex universe, the pilot is rather dull when compared to what happens later on in the series. While Babylon 5 went through many cast changes throughout its 5 year run, the characters themselves went through changes themselves. For example, mortal enemies G'Kar and Londo become good friends. Who can forget Delenn's very alien physical transformation and the Sinclair is Valen arc, or Garibaldi's fight with alcoholism. Marcus' endless pursuit of Ivanova and the unique end to the Shadow War. What drove the characters through these changes was the story, the plot, and there were many. The Narn-Centauri War, the Shadow War, Psi-Corps and the Telepaths, President Clark and the War to free Earth. So, with all these complex plots and characters, what's the theme in Babylon 5? Well, there are many, but what I think sums up the theme of Babylon 5 is Ivanova's last quote in the final episode, "Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future, and it changed us. It taught us that we have to create the future, or others will do it for us. It showed us that we have to care for one another, because if we don't, who will? And that true strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely places. Mostly though I think it gave us hope that there can always be new beginnings, even for people like us." That's right! Its in there somewhere, try the 'we have to create the future.' yeah! *G* |
