GOVERNOR'S ROCK
Oil on canvas 900mm x 600mm . Artist's collection . © Peter Siddell 1995

Like Western Cliff this painting is based on the cliffs at Karekare beach. The geology is typical of the eroded volcanic nature of Auckland’s western coast.
The name Governor’s Rock comes from the visits to Karekare of the Governor General Viscount Galway who sheltered under this rock to change into his swimming costume.
