Q : What is a Loco Moco??
A: Loco Moco consists of a thick layer of rice covered by a hamburger patty drenched in brown gravy topped with an egg prepared (usually) sunny side up. This dish can be eaten for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. It is common to have a scoop of macaroni salad served with the loco moco.
While in Hawaii - I tried the Loco Moco everywhere, assuming it was on the menu. So during the course of my vacation I had it 4 times. I will rank them....heres my reviews:

1. Norms (Maui) - This is a local place that we went to. The loco moco there was the best yet! It had 2 hamburger pattys, 2 eggs. Gravy was a good consistancy - not too thick & not too watery. The serving wasn't very big. But it kept me tied down while we drove to Hana. In this case it was Quality over quantity.....

2. L&L's (Maui) - This place was located in the mall. Fast food place. The serving was quite big - they gave you 2 eggs & 2 pattys & a grip load of gravy. The gravy was a bit too thin. All in all it was pretty good. L&L is also here in the mainland. They have a place in the La Puente mall in the food court. Try it....you might like it.

3. KC Drive thru - (Oahu) This place ranks #3 out of the 4. The portion was on the smaller side. The egg was really overcooked. So if you go to this place - dont even bother ordering the loco moco. But they did have something called "Weiner on a waffle" ( i had chili on mine) & that was damn good. So give that a try....

4. Rainbow Drive In - The loco moco here sucked big time. It has really small. They stuffed everything into a container a lil bigger than a 12oz soda can. Only had 1 egg, & the hamburger patty was tiny, I mean it had to fit in the container right?! Dont even try the loco moco here, not worth it at all......
