Japanese girls are absolutely batshit crazy. May is no exception. She pretty much reinvents the small anime female (mind you, I say that about every little anime girl, because they're all the same). She chucks herself into danger without quite realising that she's chucking herself into danger with nothing but Johnny on her mind. If Johnny gets arrested, she'll go and beat up a bunch of people in a fighting tournament to get him out of prison (rather than just going and breaking him out with some crazy elaborate plan; surely a much more reliable way to do it). If his birthday is coming up, she'll go off bounty hunting (usually looking for Gears; they have a high exchange rate) to buy him a birthday present (God knows what; 500,000 dollars seems a bit steep for a birthday gift). If she beats the crap out of Johnny, she'll insist that it's for the good of their love (even though Johnny's at least 25 and she's like, 13).

She also has a Jolly Crew (all named after months of the year in some way; Johnny = January, Dizzy = December, etc; her best friend and "Chief Advisor" is called April) who are always on hand to trample her unlucky victim should she choose to jump 80 feet into the air and lob them to the ground. And of course they consist of (you'll never guess!) anime girls. Riding big-assed mechs and carrying enormous spanners. Because they can.

Best moment: Anime Girl ESP
I-no gets onto the Mayship (and she must have somehow flown there because May's talking about the possibility of calling port somewhere) and pushes Dizzy off, so May goes running after her. On the way, she meets Zappa whom she kicks the crap out of, then runs into Faust. Unbeknownst to them both at the time, Faust fits the main criteria for making May dislike him very strongly: Underneath that paper bag, he's bald. Although she cannot see this, she starts getting goosebumps and cold shivers to to her Japanese girl-sense and proceeds to kick the crap out of him too, then runs off screaming and starts searching for someone with hair.

Rating: 8. I actually wanted to give her a lower score than this because she's not exceptionally good in a fight. However, the wacky personality and overall hilarious clich-ness of the character both make up for all of that. Besides, I know I'd be whining like crazy if a little girl smashed my face in with a ship's anchor.

Theme songs: Originally, it was "Unidentified Child". That was a bunch of synth over a simple rhythm guitar riff with the occasional quick solo. That tune was pretty damn cool; totally different but whitenoisy enough for me to say that it rocked. Then came "Blue Water Blue Sky" which when heard in the proper context, ie: along with the actual backdrop you're supposed to fight her against (a flying ship with the clouds rushing over your heads) it's absolutely breathtaking. Then after that came "Get Out Of My Way" in #Reload which also rocked, again because it was so unbelievably happy and chirpy and cheerful. Lucky kid. All of them make me want to
masturbate pick up an anchor and beat the crap out of people with it.
