I Can Only Be Me
Emily Arthur © 2005
For so long I have tried to change
The person I am, the girl inside
I lifted and lowered to contemporary vogue
I’ve searched within me to find somebody
Anybody else who lives completely
Her loveliness exceeding my own
Exquisite like a polished stone
With smooth edges and so much to give
The faults of her easy to forgive
I can only imagine the way I would live
If I could be her for one day
Would I act a different way
Would my thoughts be my own
Would I still have a home
Would I love like I do
Would I even know you
It is doubtful, and now I see
I can only be me
If you don’t like it, leave.
