Never Got To Say Goodbye
Emily Arthur © 2004
How do I thank
The greatest man
That I’ve ever known
To me you rank
Higher than
Any fairytale hero
You always told me
I could be anything I wanted to be
But where would I be without you
You inspired me
And you still do
As the years go by
And I meet the world
I realize why
I’m as strong as I am
But I remember when
I was your little girl
I miss back then
But I’m moving forward
Although my eyes are dry
My heart still cries
It’s now I wonder why
I never got to say goodbye
I have the memories
To help me through my life
You gave me all my strength
My guns and my pocket knife
You inspired me
To love to read
To always succeed
To never abandon my dreams
You taught me to respect
By how you treated Mother
How you treated my brothers
Your love will always reflect
In their eyes, and in mine
Oh how I love you Daddy
I pray for you every day
It took a piece of me
The day you cried for me
The last day you breathed
I’ll never forget
Those last words you said to me
The tear that rolled down your cheek
It echoed my pain
I just wish I could’ve been there
As you slipped away
I know you’re in a better place
And it’s time for me to say
Goodbye.
