Falling Asleep
Emily Arthur © 2005
I am pulled down so low
Stretched between conscious and slumber
My body resists my mind
My resolve dissolves her confines
My heart rests her protests
Inhibition dwindles with the light
As I sway softly in the night
And the songs of sleep lull me
My will fades like the sun in rain
And I am left drained
Earthly troubles that keep me from peace
Drift away like whimsical things
I lay my head within feathery dreams
My pillow is now my portal
To worlds never ventured
But before I tiptoe into my calm
And leave the world far behind
An image of you enters my mind
I am brought back to life with a smile
Now falling asleep might take a while
