ORIGENE BIOGRAPHY

Melbourne act Origene created massive waves at home and abroad with their debut single “Suddenly, Silently”. In Australia the track received extensive air and club play, and was subsequently signed to numerous labels worldwide including Ministry of Sound USA. They returned August 2002 with “Sanctuary”, the follow up single, from their forthcoming debut album on 2Q Records.

Comprising of core members and musicians Ben Grayson and Brian Canham, Origene have continued to utilize a number of featured vocalists as they work towards completing their debut album, including a few very established voices who are embarking on dance / club projects for the first time. On “Sanctuary” however, we are treated to another fine, smooth as silk vocal performance from “Suddenly…” vocalist Matilda White.

Brian Canham is no stranger to the Australian music scene, having fronted one of the 80s’ biggest bands: Pseudo Echo. After numerous gold and platinum records, awards, and local and international hits (including Funky Town and Listening), Brian moved more seriously into the production and writing world in the 90’s, scoring more hit records for a number of local acts.

Ben Grayson brings to the the Origene mix an extensive technical / musical knowledge, having started mutating sounds on his computer at the age of 15, and completing studies in musical theory at Melbourne’s College of Arts. Ben is also involved in other projects on the 2Q label which will be released in the near future.

It is the combination of Ben and Brian’s songwriting and production talent that has resulted in two strong singles so far, with a very promising body of newly completed Origene works and album on the way. The sound of “Sanctuary” moves further along on the path forged by the debut single “Suddenly…”.

Whilst the arrangement and production are very European sounding and club based, the song itself is highly addictive and is sure to create just as much of a buzz at radio and in club land as it’s predecessor. As with their debut, Origene’s new single “Sanctuary” comes packed with some slamming remixes from local crews Smash ‘n’ Grab, Inertia Blue, and Ivan Gough (The Traveller) which will certainly find favor with DJ’s the world over. Look out for the clip also and watch out for the Origene live experience at clubs and dance parties across Australia.
