unseasonable july:
it’s too hot for this
sticky air
that presses against you
trapped
in the heat that clings to you
that leaves you restless
bone weary
cold water
drops
on your chin
that slide down
your throat
roll down your neck
drip, drip
like the sweat
beading on your forehead
relief so fleeting
so hot
even in the shade
no lemonade could ever
break this spell
and the fans
only blow hot air
back at you
leaving you
flushed
tired
brittle
like you could snap
from the heat
you think you might
snap
your sanity
is evaporating
like the moisture
in the ground
there is humidity
in its wake
a haze
in a daze
you stumble
through the day
aimlessly
thinking…
it’s too hot for this
