| Blurring the lines between cinema and video games has always been the goal of video game developers since the very early days on this industry. To give a player an experiance that can not only compete against movie and films as a artistic medium but also in some ways surpass the experiance that films and movies can provide to the audience. Many believe that The Getaway by Sony Europe is the next step in the evolution of video games and will serve as the vehicle to bring new audiences into the interactive media realm. - The Getaway is one of the most ambitious video games ever attempted in the history of the medium. - The Getaway will feature a photo-realistic environment and in fact, it was difficult to tell the difference between the a side by side comparism of a real London location with a in game shot of the same location. - The play arena in the game is also very impressive. the development team filmed and captured 40 square kilometers of London. Every block, and street corner is replicated right down to the cracks in the pavement. - The Getaway is a free-roaming mission based 3D action game much along the lines of games like Grand Theft Auto 3. - Taking a page from Gran Turismo A-spec car physics will play a huge factor in this game. Each car will have different physics and handling charachteristics unique to each of the individual cars in the game. Sony has contacted several of the same car manufactures that you would see driving around in a major European city. The city streets are filled with pedestrians and moving traffic. Like the Grand Theft Auto series players will be able to abandon one car and take another. The pedestrians AI will be dynamically modeled to respond to their surroundings. - The Getaway's storyline blurs the line between game and reality with 2 playable charachters with multiple perspectives that enrich the story telling process. Sony of Europe spent a considerable amount of the development on the story and it's shows. |
