To check if the game you are trying to burn is protected have a look at the psx protection site. Before you read any of the Tutorials I just want to give a few tips when burning Psx or Ps2 games.
1. Always read and write at the lowest speed possible (preferably 1)
2. Check the disk for any scratches
3. If you get a read error it means the cd is scratched and it can't read the sector of the cd
4. Use Clone cd if your burner is supported (if not the cdrwin and patching is the next best bet)
5. If the game doens't load then you probably haven't patched it properly.
6. Clone CD will get over the mod protection so you don't need to patch
Clone cd is the best burning program to use when burning psx or pc games because it make perfect 1:1 copies of the games meaning that if the game is protected or copyrighted then clone cd will get past that. The best way to burn with clone is to read an image file and burn that image file onto a cd, to burn protected psx games without the need to patch you need to enable the top two boxes in the read and write tabs.
1. Insert Blank cd into your cdrw drive
2. Open up clone cd (download from this site)
3. Click on Read
4. Read speed 1x or 2x if psx, if your not burning psx then read at desired speed
5. Check don't report read errors
6. Click next and choose where you want the image file to be found
7. Click ok and let the cd read :)
1. Open up the image file from your hard drive
2. Click burn!
1. Open up clone cd
2. Click on read
3. Check the box that says "read sub channel data from data tracks"
4. Check the box that says "read sub channel data from audio tracks"
5. Check don't report read errors
6. Click next and choose where to make the image file
7. Click ok and the cd will read
1. Open up Clone cd
2. Click on burn
3. Open the image file
4. Check the top two boxes as mentioned earlier
5. Click burn
6. The protected game will burn and wont require patching
please note that only supported burners can use this method with clone cd, to check if your burner is clone cd compatible go to http://www.elby.de/CloneCD/english/index.htm.
Cdrwin is the next best burning program for psx games because you can download and apply patches to the image file and play the protected psx games, use this software if your burner is not clone compatible
1. Open cdrwin (download from this site)
2. Click on extract disks/tracks/sectors
3. Make sure "Extract Mode disk image/cue sheet" is checked
4. Make an image name
5. Read the image onto your hard drive
6. When it has read, go to megagames and check if the game has a patch
7. If the you find a patch for the game then download the patcher from megagames and apply to the patch to the cue file that cdrwin made
8. Click on Record disk and load up the cue file (not the bin file it will come on automatically :)
9. Click start recording and the cd will burn
This program isn't designed for psx or ps burning (or any game burning), but is good for burning data, mp3's and backing up files. The procedures are simple
1. Open up Easy CD Creator
2. Select the mode you want
3. Click and drag the files or mp3's you want on your cd
4. Burn at any speed for data
Disk Juggler (or DJ as i'll call it) is ok.... for burning games except it tends to conflict a lot if you have a lot of other burning programs on your pc. I haven't had too much experience with DJ except it is quite an easy to use program
1. Open DJ (preferable versions 2 or 3)
2. Choose the mode you want (example cd to cd copy)
3. and click copy
4. If you want to read an image of a games file then do so (and read and write at 1x)
5. When the reading has completed load the DJ image file and burn it onto a disk
6. A lot of ISO files can be burned with DJ
7. DJ is also the best for burning ripped DC games
I liked using Nero when I first started burning psx games (when they weren't mod protected) because it always worked and it was reliable. I still do use Nero to burn non protected games and it works fine except now I use Nero for its mp3 and vcd functions. Nero is probably the best all round burning program so its worth a look at if you don't already have it. Nero has a number of different functions but I will only say how to burn psx games with Nero.
1. Open Nero 5.5
2. Click on CD copy
3. Select where you want the image file to be saved
4. Select read and write speed as 1
5. Do Not check "On The Fly"
6. Tick "ignore Jitter Correction"
7. Click on copy and the psx game (non protected) should burn without any probs.
