Pain to Pain
June 2001
We were raw then,
Eaten by acid of women and men,
Falling into each other to seal the wound,
Falling into each other
Clasping hands with each other
To weld one hurt to another
And leave the skin outside to seem smooth.
But welding pain to pain
Only lets caustics work from inside out
Until the bowel of us was rotten
And stinging with the pain, rough with it.
And our addicted lips
Drank the juice of us,
The poison of us,
Letting pain heal pain,
Scourging ourselves of our skin,
Drunk on mutual ruin,
And cleansing and branding and killing ourselves
With the acid of woman to man.
