Mount Cheam is HUGE looking but is very easy to climb.....if you have a 4X4. There is a road that runs up to the 1,400 meter level near Spoon Lake. From there it is a leisurely hike zig-zagging part way up Lady peak, past the Cheam Ridge which has an impressive drop off, and then up to the peak (Which isn't very large). From the top the view is breath taking and it can be very windy. There is nothing to give you cover because you are way above the tree line. Be careful of that edge! The drop off scared my dog so much she nearly crawled under me and my cousin. In the summer you can get eaten by flys and mosquitos.....in the spring and fall the bears come out to feast....on the berries in the meadow. If you take a friend make sure they are slower than you! If you plan to go up in the winter be prepared! Rope, crampons, Pieps locaters, shovel, ice axe and a helmet can come in very handy. |

This was in October when My cousin Christophe came out to B.C. from Ottawa to sample some of our outdoors. It's a good thing he's in great shape because we hiked up in the snow, nearly got blown off the top and it was so cold my video camera tape froze up. If you look closely in the picture the dog is trying to crawl under him. The view was awesome as we were over the clouds. |

This is the view from the top looking West towards Abbotsford. As you can see from the clouds below the view is terrific. As you can see from the rocks and snow in the lower left hand side this was not taken from an airplane. If you go in the winter 'WATCH THAT EDGE' it will break away on you and skiing out of bounds will have a whole new meaning to you. |
