Dear All:

Hello.

This is the web site for the Milwaukee band the Prudent Bear.

Despite the fact that we’ve not yet played a billion shows (okay: even a million), we are a functioning band to the extent that we perform (okay: rehearse) quite often, and we have a number of original compositions, the titles of which are represented below.  We have also taken the liberty of including helpful one-line descriptions of each song:

FATTY IN THE CAR

A treatise on patterns of obesity in mid-size city slum lords.

INCANDENZA

Dream pop funk agony/ecstasy.  David Foster Wallace deification.

GREEN PIRATE ON BLUE LAND

Contains a reference to Chernobyl.

FOUCAULT’S METRONOME

Drunk on grenadine.

THE TODAY SONG

White fly girls.  Waking up in the morning.  Sighing.

Vu SONG

Sing-along pundits.

NOT A MAN

Meat-headed tropic devices.

POST-IRONIC STRESS SYNDROME

Aplomb in the face of milieu that feeds on the dregs of half-assed Tina Brown consumer-cultural ideals.

THE LEFT = THE LEFT

Dedicated to the memory of Mary Hansen of Stereolab semi-fame.

LAZY SATURDAY (from The Sit-Com Writer and the Architect Suite)

Balin, Kantner, Slick and Others: Casady is the real deal.

DIRE HIATUS

Taking the elevator.  Taping cockroach carcasses to your forehead.

CHAIRMAN MAO

The protagonist’s unique (?) obsession therewith.

STEROID DISPENSER

Wet plastic bag and its significance.

OUTBOARD

A particular bodily organ as a microcosm of the body.  The desire to sever it.

DAVID SCHWIMMER

His skin = your TV screen.

WHEN THE SAGACIOUS LIE

Like sleeping dogs.

So: if these descriptions have not whetted your appetite to learn and hear more—or even if they have—CHECK BACK SOON.  Because in a month or two, we will have a gaggle of shows under our collective belt.  (That’s right, we, the Prudent Bear, share one belt.  See the pictures section.).

Sincerely,

The Prudent Bear
