JOAN HO'S WORK
Josh was shocked when he saw his best friend, David, gasping for air. It was a fine Friday afternoon. Josh had invited David over to his house to study and play as their school teacher had dismissed them early. David was weak and had had asthma since young and Josh knew it too as they were friends since they were studying in nursery school. Immediately, Josh went to the kitchen to get a cup of water for him and searched David's bag for hie medicine. When Josh got back into the room, he noticed that David's face was pale and as white as a sheet of paper, and he was standing near his study table when he was supposed to rest on Josh's bed. Upon seeing Josh coming in, he quickly closed something on Josh's desk and grabbed the medicine from Josh and consumed them. Josh asked if he was okay and he nodded. After that, they continued on playing computer games. Mean-while, Josh took money he had saved for the day and dropped them into his piggy bank.It was made of metal and placed on his study table. But this time, there was something not quite right. Usually when he dropped coins into the bank, there would be coins' rattling sound, but this time was a loud metal "ding" .Just then, some coins dropped out from David's pocket. Josh felt weird that David had coins as he remembered David saying that his parents did not give him enough money and he had spent what he had on a packet of biscuits. David realised that Josh was looking at him, puzzled, then he realised the coins on the floor. Facing his best friend, David dared not lie. He told everything he did when Josh was away and the reason he had for stealing his money. David's mother had a very hard time workng to raise David up and his two sisters up, and David had to go for regular check- ups at the hospital, and had to buy medicines every time he finished it, while his father could not find a job for half a year after he was retrenched. After hearing David's explanation, Josh did not say anything but a thought flashed through his mind. He had thought of a way to help David. He pushed David back in front of the computer screen after he had returned him the money and apologised. He sent David home when it was going dinner. When Josh got home, he told his parents what happened when David was over and his idea on how to help David. It was having David as Josh's tutor as David was always scoring the top in class. David would earn fifty-dollars a month in that case. His parents thought through about it and finally agreed. On the same night, Josh reminded David to pay him fifty-dollars. David was suprised and asked why. Josh told him about the tutoring. David did not know what to reply at first but agreed in the end. He also promised not to steal money again.

Dear Hui Juan, I hope this letter finds you in the pink of health. Regarding your question about the qualities of a good student, this is how I feel. In order to be a good student, we must be hardworking, responsible, take pride in our work, courteous and be respectful. To be hardworking, you must always do your homework and do not be lazy. To be responsible is to be able to bare the responsibility yourself and not blame it on others. This means we have to hand in our work on time. You must also take pride in your work. You must be neat and tidy and not scribble around. Taking pride in our work also means that we are proud of our work. Being courteous is to be polite and not to be rude to either your teachers or fellow classmates. You must also be respectful. You must respect the teachers and fellow classmates and in return they will also respect you in return. Being able to care and think for others is to be thoughtful. We must be thoughtful and not only care of ourselves but put others before us. We must also be reliable. I think I have mention most of the good qualities for being a good student if you want to be a good student. Regards, Debbie

Dear Miss Siew, I hope this letter finds you in the pink of health. Regarding your question about what qualities I look for in an English teacher, this is how I feel. All teachers, not only an English teacher, should be patient when teaching a student. An English teacher should have more of that patient when teaching as English is harder to learn as it is a subject. An English teacher also has to show the students that he or she is helpful. In this way, students would clarify their doubts with their English teacher instead of their friends who may tell them the wrong thing. Not only that, the teacher should appear ready to forgive the students mistake but not their mischievous acts. With that, more students would not be afraid to make mistakes. Teachers should not talk too fast as students may not be able to hear important notes they should take down. Talking too slow is not a good thing as it will drive students to sleep! Indeed, an English teacher is hard to be. He or she must earn respect from students and must let the students believe that making mistakes is not a crime. There might not have a perfect teacher in the world, but I feel that all teachers should try to be one. Yours Sincerely, Sharyl
