REPEATERS
The first 8 channels on PRS can be used on repeaters. A Repeater retransmits (repeats) on one channel a transmission it recives on anouther channel. Repeaters have a input and a output frequency and the imput frequency is PRS 31 thru to PRS 38 and the repeaters output is 1 thru to 8.
To activate the repeaters you will need to switch on the DUP (duplex) switch, then your radio will transmit on channels 31 to 38 the repeater imput and your radio will received on channel 1 to 8 the repeater output.
Repeaters are most often located on top of mountains, tall building to further extend the range of the radios. Distances of 50 to 120 kilometers are commonly achievied via repeaters even if mobile or handhold transceivers are used.
CHRISTCHURCH REPEATERS.
Channel 1 1/2 way up Mt Grey Just inland from Amberley north of Rangiora.

Channel
8 Lincoln University hall roof.

Channel
6 and 7 Timaru can be triggered from the   top of the Christchurch port hills over looking  Hornby.

****Please email me if any new repeaters are active or the current repeaters are deactived.****

RADIO OUTPUT POWER.

Radios have a output power of 1/2 a watt to 5 watt so a radio with 1/2 a watt could transmit upto 2 km and a 5 watt radio could transmit upto 6km or over. By putting an external antenna on your the roof of your car or house you will greatly extend the distence your radio will transmit, the higher the antenna the better.
1/2 a watt radios may have trouble triggering all the repeaters, but by going up to the port hills or to the roof of the Palms or Westfield shopping center carparks you could trigger all the repeaters and get better coverage over Christchurch and Canterbury.
There are many business using PRS radios in their warehouses, shops, factorys, road workers, trampers, 4w drive clubs, carparks on the farm and in most parts of New Zealand and Australia. Most cities in NZ and Australia have more than one repeater that can be used for chitchat so take your radio with you on holiday. PRS repeaters are privately owned but are available for all PRS radio users to use weather you own the repeater or not. You don't need the repeaters owners permission to use the repeater and the owner of a repeater cannot not allow you to use the repeater.
But please remember that foul language is not permited at all on the radio and the repeater owner could switch the repeater off if the swearing continues. Some repeaters are ternd on for short times ie weekend or day time for workers and tern off when not in use by the company. Please feel free to email, phone me to ask questions and mybe we could talk on PRS.
