Cafell

Name of Persona: Cafell
Age of Persona: 17
Residence: Ridge Crest Weyr
Craft: Candidate
Pet: Brown Nish

Description of Persona: While her personality is a truthful representation of who she is, she might be thought to harbor dark secrets, and her ready smiles will occasionally fail to reach stormy, smoke-gray eyes. Pixyish in nature, her looks reflect that. A cute little figure and a sturdy frame, she can delve into any trouble that comes along, and that personality of hers attracts as many guys, if not more, as the looks do. Thick, shoulder length, straight medium-brown hair has enough body to curl under at the ends and allows Cafell to style it any way she wants. Usually that's just brushed so it's smooth and the tangles are out. Her facial features resemble something between a feline and a fox, and while she's "cute" she isn't particularly pretty or beautiful. That's all right though, because what she lacks in a beautiful face, she makes up with her personality. She'll wear whatever she wants: dresses, skirts, leather or wherhide; some of it looks great, some of it doesn't.
Loud, flamboyant and outright zany, dynamic and complex, but still young Cafell wasn't born with a shy bone in her body. She has the friendly and open disposition of one used to being popular with everyone, and has a tendency to forgive rather than hold a grudge. She's quick to apologize and will be supportive when she knows people need it, tending to be that "shoulder to cry on" or person to get advice from. She treats everyone as an equal, from the Weyrwoman to the lowliest drudge, which can annoy others, especially of higher rank than she is. She's level and composed when situations arise, joking lightly and trying to make others feel better. Unless she chooses to ignore the facts and observations set down before her, Cafell shows great empathy for people and animals. On a contradictory note, she works better alone, but will take charge in any group she's in -- however she dictates rather than leads. She demands no less than what she is willing to give, which is sometimes a lot more than people want to give. She's eloquent in all forms of the word, and well spoken to only become sharp tongued when people flog themselves emotionally or ask too many questions.
Spoiled by her parents, at an early age Cafell learned how to get what she wanted, and how to make people feel guilty for being mean or not giving her what she wanted. She knows exactly what she wants most of the time, and has the guts to go after whatever or whomever it is she wants. She'll be stubborn, docile, sweet, amiable, and yes, even occassionally lie to get someone to do what she wants him or her to, but she is never openly or fully rebellious. If someone casually brushes her aside, it'll make her more determined to figure them out and to get them to be friends. She's a dreamer and very passionate about everything, yet she has few illusions about life. Still young and impressionable, she has holder girl reservations and morals, avoids reds and greens like the plague, and has heard tales of dragonriders that would make many wince.

Brief History of Persona: Cafell is the daughter of Lord Isoten and Lady Donova of Granite Heights: a small, isolated, but prosperous Hold of minor degree in the interior plateaus of the Southern Continent. Granite Heights is best known for its endurance runners and a hearty grain crop it tithes well to its Weyr; although widely known, it is considered an inconsequential backwater within many Hold and Craft political circles. Most of Granite Heights' proud residents take this teasing in stride, but others don't -- particularly the Holders who find the constant mockery at gathers an intolerable distraction. Granite Heights is weyrbound to Black Rock Weyr, and although they have a good working relationship with the Weyrleaders, Lord Isoten does not take kindly to many dragonriders visiting his hold, nor does he take kindly to either his chattel or any of the young females fostered under his care bearing dragon seed. Isoten and Donova are stubborn traditionalists set in their ways, performing their holder duties to every letter seen fit. Isoten takes an active role in the conduct, discipline and productivity of his beholden, doling out and taking away the land of the small cot and farmholds in his territory as he sees fit. Donova, on the other hand, takes an active domestic role -- fostering children, ordering the drudges and cooks, managing the herbal stores, organizing the Hold women, and keeping and updating the record books. Their fourteen living children have all been fostered to neighboring Holds of major and minor degree between their fourteenth and sixteenth Turns, and before that were reared by the nurses Donova employed to care for them. Cafell -- tenth child and sixth daughter -- was cared for by Sumisa, the oldest of the nurses, and fostered to River Falls Hold. Cafell grew up learning her duties to her Hold and dragonkind; despite all those lessons, however, she also grew up sheltered from dragonriders. Whenever the Weyrleader -- or even a messenger -- might visit, Cafell and her sisters were instantly immured in the inner hold and sent to work with the weaving Aunts to learn the loom and proper stitches. The outcome was at least better than one might expect; Cafell learned her stitches and the working of the loom -- in fact she had the best, most delicate and straightest stitches out of all her sisters, full and half Blood. Cafell learned and witnessed in her thirteenth Turn of what promiscuity in the Hold resulted: a slit throat for the adulteress. It was, needless to say, a lesson learned to heart on her part, and Cafell learned not to dally and to quickly stop the advances of any "commoner" male. She was being trained up to be a proper Lady, for whomever her parents decided she ought to marry, and beyond that she was taught to use her "femininity" to her advantage. She learned her lessons and duties well, and the Lord and Lady who fostered her continued her training; eventually, Cafell and her foster parents' eldest son were to be married. That fell through when he was thrown from his runner and broke his neck, and Cafell's parents finally gave into Search requests. (events yet to happen - stay tuned for the posts).
