Description of Persona: Elaric stands at a modest 5�6��, not yet near approaching his full adult height. In many ways he still looks more like a child than a man, but anyone looking more closely at him can tell that he is certainly not a child�he inhabits that elusive in-between place of teenagerdom. At 16 he has just begun to fill out into the strength of manhood, losing the boy-like scrawniness that so many experience during their childhood. His shoulders are broad, almost too broad for his size, and his arms are long and sway confidently when he walks. He is well-muscled, and slightly tanned, as all sons of minor Holders are, from days in the fields and work around the Hold. Freckles dot his long face, appearing in a multitude during the summer months and mostly disappearing during the winter, sharing company with a few isolated patches of acne along his chin and forehead. His hair is long, falling just below his shoulders; it is thin, honey-brown, and stick-straight. It is shaggy from months without being cut, and when pulled backed falls in incessant wisps around his face, much to his annoyance. His smile comes only when it is well-deserved, and his thin lips part to show a row of slightly crooked bottom teeth. He has a large nose, and small eyes of a light green hue, that sparkle with an intelligence not readily apparent from the rest of his physical appearance. Elaric cares nothing for fashion or for looks, finding them inherently superficial and unimportant. He is unaware of how that outlook has affected and will affect the way people see him. Elaric has a piercing, cynical intelligence that bores its way into everything in his life. He has an incredible head for business, for management, and also for prose. He is motivated, and successful at anything he tries, because of his clever mind and unflagging dedication. He desires above all to be the Holder once his father retires, and to bring his Hold back to the glory it once enjoyed. Elaric loves to read, and to write; he keeps up correspondance with sons of Holders and Holders themselves from all over Pern. Inside he is a private soul�he loves to be alone. Much of this stems from being generally picky about everything, from friends to girls to reading material to food, though he would never show this constant judgement to the outside world. Elaric would rather have a few close friends than many superficial ones�he desires always to be challenged intellectually, and not many can fill that position. His desire for solitude does not equal a dislike of people or inability to get along with them, however. He is uncomfortable with people he does not know very well, and won�t show them his true self unless they earn that privledge. He himself is hard to dislike for the reason that he will never give anyone a reason to dislike him; he keeps to his own business and is unfailingly polite and kind. Elaric is eloquent and an excellent communicator; his charm has won him many favors in the past. He has a quiet confidence; many people misjudge his solitude for antisocial behavior, but a remarkable personality shows through to anyone who is able to pass through his walls. Elaric loves to laugh, and pokes fun at everything around him; half of the words out of his mouth are in jest or exactly the opposite of what he thinks, though his face does not usually betray that fact. He will never pass up a chance for fun, or for daredevil sport, unless it will interfere with his studies or career plans. Always honest and polite, he shares a conflicting respect for authority with a desire break the rules. Often his politeness and maturity will fool those above him into letting him have special privledges�which he takes care to abuse quietly whenever he can.

Brief History of Persona: Elaric was born to the Holder of Lessan Hold, a small group of lands about a day�s ride away from Lizard Ridge. Elaric was raised to eventually take over his father�s position, and it is his dream and his hope to do so. He is the perfect Holder�s son�competence and intelligence mixed with desire. His father, Vassic, is an older man who is loving and kind if not very open, and does not have any talent for business�consequently, Lessan Hold is not doing as well as it has in Turns past. After a drought earlier in the beginning of Vassic�s Holdership, the Hold has been slowly declining and showing little profit. Elaric hopes to change all that. He has one sister, two Turns younger, named Alexani, who shows no interest in the Hold at all whatsoever. His mother, Kellia, is a journeywoman Healer. Elaric has recently been Searched to Dark Ridge Weyr. This, though certainly exciting, has presented the young man with several problems if Impression occurs: One, giving up all he has been raised for and dreamed about since he was able to speak. Two, the problem of an heir for Lessan Hold, as his sister will not be able to handle the job. He originally did not want to go to the Weyr at all, but at the insistence of his parents he agreed, and is carefully rethinking his outlook on his life and his future. His father Vassic had once had the opportunity to Stand as a Candidate�but his own father, Elaric�s grandfather, had refused, not wishing to jeapordize the succession. It has been a dream that has haunted Vassic even since. Consequently, it is very important to him that Elaric Stand, at least once, so that the same will not happen to his son.
