| 'FRIENDS' EXPLAIN THEIR RETURN ON 'ACCESS HOLLYWOOD' Published: January 13, 2003 BURBANK, Calif. -- January 13, 2003 -- It was announced recently that Friends would be returning for a tenth season, despite cast exclamations to the contrary. Creator and Executive Producer Marta Kauffman says until the very last minute she didnt think the show would return. She and the cast tell Access Hollywood why and how minds were changed. The interviews air on Access Hollywood, Monday, January 13, 2003 (check local listings for time and station). Lisa Kudrow says that the actors were the last group in the process to discuss returning, First, the network and studio have to decide to do it and they work out something. Then, the producers decided and work out something. Then, we are the last ones they come to. There was a lot of talk among the cast, how many (episodes) would be reasonable to do, how many we felt like doing. At this point, everybody is at such a different stage of their life that doing this show might not suit everybodys life right now. Were doing 18 shows and then thats it! Matthew Perry tells Access Hollywoods Tony Potts, that for him; the deciding factor for returning is that We are having blast doing it, a really fun time. Its sad to think about ending. Creator and Exec Producer Marta Kauffman says that she was as surprised as everyone else to learn that Friends would return for a 10th season. Until the very last minute I was sure it would never happen. I was convinced. I just thought itd be to tough to do, with everybodys livesPeople, you know, caring about their marriages and having families. I just thought it would be too difficult. And then, there we were. Youre kidding, what happened I was leaving on a plane for a vacation asking myself, Really, were coming back? Really? Truthfully, NBC has been such good partners for so many years and they really wanted this, Kauffman says about the deal closer. I think that convinced everyone to just try really hard to make it happen. As for any nerves about going on too long, Kauffman says, Of course there are nerve about that. But I also have great faith in this staff and cast to make the show wonderful, funny, original, different. Weve got some ideas Access Hollywood is produced by NBC and distributed by NBC Enterprises Domestic Syndication. |
