In 1991 Paul started his racing career in the same fashion as everyone else, karts. Paul ran in the Simcoe Kart Club ran by the Chiovitti family in Sutton, Ontario Canada. Over the years Paul developed numerous driving skills, and with those skills came hard work and determination to be in victory lane. That is just what Paul did, he worked hard and became one of the most feard competitors on the grid. Success would eventually come, winning numerous regional events and competing in every WKA event along the way Paul would soon realize his potential. In July 1997, Paul went to the new kart track at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario to compete in the Canadian Grand Nationals. After a trying day with the weather and the different set ups need to be made, Paul walked away with the "Bear" he was the 1997 Yamaha Senior Lights Canadian Champion. 1998, would also bring success. Paul went to Shannonville Motorspeedway to contend for the Formula 125 Canadian title. Paul would not stand down, after blowing the competiton away, Paul was again Canadian Champion with another "Bear" this time in the top karting class, the Shifter 125's with speeds over 120 mph. Paul also competed in the 1998 World Karting Champioships in Charlotte,NC.
After all Paul's success in karting, LA Rainbow racing came calling. They invited Paul to test one of their Canadian Champcar Lights single seater racers. Paul immediately accepted and hoped in not knowing what kind of a year was instore. After the testing session was held, Paul was hired. He drove in the #45 Protech/PowderTech Dodge Neon Van Dieman. The first race of the year Paul came in second after starting fourth at Delaware. In the next race at Autodrome St. Felicien Paul finished third. Already this rookie had two podium finishes in two races. At Autodrome St Eustache Paul was kept of the podium for the first time coming in fourth. Next it was off to Canada's most famous race track, Mosport. Paul finished second after starting fourth. Then came the weekend, at Mosport's Oval. Paul went into the race starting third behing rivals Vella, and Thompson who coincidently crashed each other on the start of the first lap handing the lead to Paul which he would not let go as he went on to win his first race. Next came Mont Tremblant were Paul got his first of three in a row pole starts. Paul also went on to win this race at the Quebec ski town. Finally the end of the year was here with only two races to go. Would'nt you guess Paul takes the pole in both and wins both. What a way to win the championship and rookie of the year.
Near the end of 1999 Paul moved to England. Why? to race in the Formula Palmer Winter Series. A new brand of racing in the UK, they take 300bhp Audi engines and strap them to single seater F3000 style cars.Paul had a great time experiencing British racing and learning new skills. Paul even put on a good show too. In his first race weekend Paul was in the top ten for both races at Snetterton. With a little more practice the series moved to Brands Hatch for the last two rounds, Paul finished 9th in the first race of the weekend but unfortunately suffered a spin in the late stages of the second race. Paul has scince entered in the Euro Formula Palmer Audi Series which runs over the spring and summer and into the fall.
