About this story
Echo was started on the 19th December, 1999. Unofficially, it was started as a sort of spin-off of White Vs Black (or Zodiac as it's now called) which would focus on Zac with his friends in the Other Realm, mostly centering on the 'warrior' Echo. I started writing it as Echo is becomming a warrior, even though she does not want it. But I had nowhere to go with it. I always get this problem when I think too much of the character and how cool she is instead of the actual story. The beginning of it is here. So I started again, this time telling the story of witches and their origin as a prologue. This was only mentioned once in 'Zodiac' (at least on my first long draft anyway) but I wanted to say just where they came from, why they're here and why they no longer protect humans. I wanted Echo to be the first chosen witch because, like Zac, she is meant for great things.
Echo herself is a loser. She goes to a school of total misfits, filled to the brim of the lowest bitter when it comes to the breed of witches. They are mostly half demons, which are mainly considered dangerous. I suppose, yes, the idea of the 'witch school' itself is a lot like Hogwarts, but I wanted it to be like a inner-city school, full of the kids that couldn't get into Hogwarts. I sort of think of their classes like the scene from Star Wars in the bar- full of freaks. The funny thing about Echo is, though, she is a misfit because she's normal, being a pure blood and a princess. (See, being royalty doesn't pay off).
I love the idea of the Oracles, which, I'm sorry to say, came to me from an episode of Angel where he meets the Oracles. Mine are sort of the same but I'm not sure if they carry the same importance. I wanted Oracles to be revered by the witches as they all must visit them as soon as they understand what 'fate' means (about the age of six for witches). They are NOT to be confused with God. They were created before anything had been created on earth and God was lonely. The Divine Power became matter (though of what shape is unknown) and from that cried three tears. From these tears came the three Oracles. The two in the story are the Fate-Keepers and can be found in the City Of Origin (though you cross dimensions when you walk into their room) and they tell you all about your past, present and future lives. The third is yet to be seen and myth tells will be seen when the end of the world comes. (See- I do try to think through my ideas)
I really wanted to explore the Other Realm also; being that this is a world from my very imagination. I wanted to stretch my legs out and describe as much as I could. Unfortunately, as you may be able to tell; I'm not very good with patience and just wanted to the action to start. Thus I mention a lot of things without explanation. Maybe there will be an Echo sequel (or even rewrite as I so love doing with all my other major stories) in which I will describe more than maybe required; but that may just be a little bit too Tolkien for me. One thing is for sure though: you wouldn't catch me for a day in my life without thinking up another new thing to add to my stories and this includes the Other Realm I have grown so attached to.
Also note the fact that my swearing is slim to nill-- merely for the fact it was handed in as my creative piece for GCSE English Lit. I usually use more (ahem) creative speech and so I appologise. Hate to declare this story as a U certificate-- it just doesn't sit. =)
