Chapter Twenty-Nine-
'Goodbye To You,
Goodbye To Everything That I Knew...'
Zac and Taylor ran down the stairs, despite both of them wanting to go back to help their brother and his girlfriend from the hunters. They would rather stay than never see Isaac and Melissa again but they didn't have a choice. Spite had a good grip on them and wouldn't let them go to save their best friends.
"Don't worry, I know them two, and I'm certain they'll get out of there." Spite said suddenly as they walked into the compound.
"Please God let him be right." Taylor whispered as they made their way past the vehicles.
"Trust me."
"Why should we? You've been hurting us for the past three months! I don't see why we should trust you in any way!" Zac yelled back.
"Zac, who else can we trust?" Taylor asked him, not expecting an answer. "Come on, before the vampires get down here."
Zac looked back at the way they had just ran. He prayed as hard as he could that he would see his brother and Melissa again, not wanting to lose them after being reunited for such a short amount of time. Not after all of them finding eachother after those months spent in hell. They had to make it out of there so then they could all be happy. They couldn't stay there and be killed, it just wouldn't make sense after their acts of kindness to Taylor and Zac. They didn't deserve hell and Zac wanted more than anything to run back, if only to tell them they weren't demons in any way.
Isaac looked at Melissa in shock. "I thought there was no cure?"
"There isn't, apart from this one." Melissa replied. "Isaac, please take it, before the hunters come."
"Melissa, I can't heal you as a vampire, if you became human then you can escape and..."
"And what? Live on the streets?" Melissa answered back.
"No, have a real life, one you deserve. You've suffered long enough Melissa." Isaac replied.
Melissa shook her head. "I don't even remember what being a human is like! Ike, you deserve this more than me. Take it right now!"
"No! I wont take it if I know I..." Isaac stopped suddenly.
"What Ike? Become a human again? Have a real life that doesn't include killing those you love?"
"No, a life where I'm not with you." Isaac replied quietly.
There was another loud bang at the door as it was now being broken down by the six hunters. They had little time to decide who would escape a human and who would stay and die.
"Either you take it or we both stay here and be killed." Melissa said, ignoring the fact that she would lose the love of her life by following her own commands.
"I'd rather die than live out there without you." Isaac replied, grabbing the bottle. He threw it to the ground, smashing the bottle, the contents already sinking into the floorboards.
Melissa suddenly felt a great surge of power inside of her, as if she had just been injected the powers of a witch somehow. Melissa felt her whole body growing stronger, as if her wound was healed.
You only have a little amount of time. Do it before they can kill you both.
Melissa heard Storm's voice ring in her head. She had sacrificed the very last of her powers to save them. Melissa thanked her silently for her kindness, knowing that it had now killed her old friend, the only witch who believed that some vampires were good too. Storm had saved them both, and Melissa would never forget her for it.
Melissa stared at Isaac before she stretched out her arm towards him. Isaac fell into the wall behind him, as if a great pressure had been thrown on him. He struggled but he couldn't move. Melissa stared at the bottle and, as if in reverse, the bottle pulled itself back together and the contents fell back inside.
She approached him slowly, unscrewing the bottle top. Isaac tried to move but nothing would happen, her powers overthrowing even vampire strength. Melissa felt tears falling down her face but wiped them away. She knew her fate, now she had to decide it for Isaac.
"Drink it." She whispered.
"No, Melissa, I wont." Isaac said, crying.
"I command you to drink it." She said again.
"Melissa, I love you, you can't..."
The bottle raised up by itself and Melissa took it. She kissed Isaac on the lips softly, not saying anything back. She didn't need to, it would only make her doubt what she was doing. She had to save his life and she had to die because of it. It was the only way to free him from this hell. She knew her fate and put the bottle to his lips. Isaac tried to stop her but she had already poured the contents into his mouth. Melissa put her hand over his mouth, knowing he would try to stop her again. He looked at her sadly and swallowed, knowing what fate was set now he had done so.
Isaac looked at her. "Meliss..." Melissa grabbed him and kissed him hard, knowing it would be the last time they ever would. Isaac hugged her tightly as they did so, knowing what was happening inside of him and how it would mean the end of them.
Both of their fates were now sealed.
Melissa ignored the door being broken down as she continued to kiss her boyfriend, the man she was going to marry and live with for all eternity. The man that had made her happy in the small amount of time she had known him. The man that had introduced her to a real life, a one with a family and friends, a purpose, if only it was to make sure no more suffering was going on. He had introduced her to people who looked beyond what she was and saw a good person. A real person, not one living in fear of light and humanity. She had been shown all of that and now it was ending. She wanted to be locked in that kiss for all eternity, just dying happy and with a purpose for it.
Isaac felt her being pulled away from him and cried out. No sound was produced as he fell to the ground, too weak to remain standing. He felt like a thousand swords were stabbing him all over, pain filled him from the poison he had drank. He was starting to feel pain, real pain that only humans felt. Isaac felt his chest and felt something amazing. He couldn't believe it. He coughed loudly and gasped for air as he was slowly becoming human, starting to breathe and feel pain for the first time in a year.
Isaac watched as Melissa was grabbed by the hunters, a stake raised above her chest and she was powerless to stop it. Isaac tried to stay awake but he couldn't. He was so weak he was forcing his eyes to stay open. Isaac realised what was happening and tried to get up. Nothing would work. It were as if he was drained of any energy. He could only watch as his girlfriend and love of his life die before him.
Melissa looked at Isaac for a second and then back at the stake. She had decided her fate and now it was going ahead as planned. She knew the consequences and closed her eyes, waiting for her life to end for love.
Isaac fell down, falling unconscious before Melissa was hit. He heard her scream but had nothing left to help her with. He knew it was over for the both of them, first Melissa and now him as he couldn't imagine ever waking up from such a pain as knowing she was dead.
