Newsletter No.13, January 8, 2001
Dear
Friends,
All of us from the Proyecto Educación Maya would like to wish you a happy New Year and hope that this year will bring you health and happiness.
The new school year will begin for the Guatemalan children this month. During this eighth year of P.E.M.'s existence seventeen children and adolescents will be attending primary, middle and high school thanks to your generous support. We hope to see two students graduate from high school in November. Silvia is studying to become an accountant and Edson wants to work in publicity. Both are doing their practical training this year. Silvia is working as an accountant in the Hotel Santo Domingo in Antigua and Edson is training with Radio Amiga, a radio station in Antigua. Mirna and Luisvan will be graduating in 2002 and will be doing their pre-practical training at the end of this school year, Mirna as a bilingual secretary and Luisvan as an electrician.

The 2000 school year was a successful one for P.E.M.'s students who were all very happy to be able to go to school. They have written their godparents letters as a token of their appreciation. Those of you who are godparents will find your godchild's letter included with this newsletter. The students' parents and former graduates continue to provide their unwavering support of P.E.M. by running the show with much success locally. Everybody takes turns volunteering their time for the benefit of the children.
In
order to provide our students with the financial foundation for
another successful year, we would like to ask the godparents who
haven't already done so to kindly send their donations made payable
to "Proyecto Educación Maya" to P.E.M.'s U.S.
address: 554 Summit Street, Memphis, TN 38104. Donations to the
general schoolfund of P.E.M.'s students are always very much appreciated
as well. You may contact us by e-mail at [email protected]
Thank you for your continuing support and have a great year 2001!
