Newsletter No.14, February 28, 2002
Dear Friends,
We hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits. A new school year has begun in Guatemala and it is time to send you letters and photos from your godchildren with some general information about the project.
P .E.M. ' s ninth year is underway and our fifteen young girls and boys from San Antonio Aguas Calientes are eagerly attending primary, middle and high school in San Antonio as well as in Antigua. They would all like to thank you for your generous support which has filled their school funds for yet one more year. We are happy to share with you the good news that two students graduated in November 2001 and are now in the process of finding jobs as professionals. Silvia graduated as an accountant after a year of practical training in the Hotel Santo Domingo in Antigua. Edson graduated in marketing and advertising after a year of practical training at a radio station in Antigua. Special thanks to the committed godparents! This makes nine graduates for P.E.M.
At the end of the
present school year we anticipate two more graduations. After
a year of practical training in industrial and electrical studies
for Luisvan and in accounting for Mirna both will be finishing
their high school studies. This year we have
two more high school students besides Luisvan and Mirna, six middle
school students and five girls in elementary school.
On the organizational front P.E.M. has been doing very well. Despite the fact that my husband and I have not yet been able to travel to Guatemala since our baby was born at the end of 2000, the San Antonio parents have done a wonderful job. They have run P.E.M.'s office, organized meetings, done the book-keeping, solved problems and kept in touch with us here in Memphis through our trusty e-mail correspondent and former graduate Hilda. Congratulations to the parents!
We hope that we can count on your continuing support to P.E.M. through your tax-deductible donations made payable to "Proyecto Educacion Maya" and sent to P.E.M. c/o Reinhardt-Zacair, 554 Summitt Street, Memphis, TN 38104. You may contact us by e-mail: [email protected]
