Sonic Youth is one of those bands that if included in your list of favorite bands will always prompt protests of "Why?". Well, allow me to rebut.
Sonic Youth is a band that can not be classified. And while that does not instantly make them top ten worthy it does make them a little more respectable. What makes them top ten worthy is the fact that in their differentness they have found a sound that is very appealing. In it can be found the most beautiful melodies, harmonies that can not be touched by pop music, and a soul that must have been touched by God himself. Sure, some barbarians may call it nothing but noise, but to them I say it sure is a beautiful noise. You can have your Beach Boys and your Beatles, I am quite happy having Sonic Youth all to myself. So, neener-neener. |
