With the start of cold and flu season upon us, most of us are actively avoiding any viruses possible. We all know that we should wash our hands and our children`s hands to prevent the spread of germs and to keep from getting sick.

However, did you know that the majority of people are NOT killing germs when they wash their hands? It takes at least 30 seconds of scrubbing with soap to effectively kill germs.

To teach your kids to scrub long enough, have them sing "Happy Birthday" to themselves while scrubbing. When the song is done, they can rinse. The ABC`s song also works well. Be sure to do this yourself as well, so that you don`t make yourself or your family sick.
