| Calling Dr. Hansen! |
| Syd's dream: "Do you really think you can hide your feeling from your mother, dear?" she asks her daughter. "What are you talking about Mom?" Syd asks getting out of bed. "You say you're trying to help Graham out, but really you're secretly attracted to him. Is he really the man for you?" she asks again. "Mom! Would you just stay out of my love life for once? I'm helping Graham because no one else is. I am not secretly attracted to him!" Syd said. "Are you sure?" she asked. Just then Graham's face begins popping up everywhere. Syd screams and wakes up. "Morning Dad," Syd said to her dad as she went to the refrigerator to get the orange juice later that morning. "I'm gonna be at the clinic late and then probably stop by the lighthouse, so I'll probably be a little late this evening." "Oh, speaking of Graham, how is he doing?" he asked. "Well, he's recovering fine from the surgery, but he's not fully healed underneath. He's still afraid of people. I'm trying to help him with that," she answered. "Well, you must be doing a good job; you sure are spending a lot of time with him," he told her. "I hope so. Well I better go, or I'll be late," Syd said heading out the door. Later at the clinic: "I'm leaving for lunch, so if there are any emergancies, page me," she said to Izzy. "Where are you going?" she asked. "I'm gonna go see if Graham wants to go grab some lunch. I'll be back in about an hour." "You certainly are spending a lot of time with him. Is there something other than a doctor/patient relationship?" Izzy asked in a teasing kind of voice. "Graham and I are just friends," Syd said getting all defensive. "Then why are you so defensive?" "I've gotta go," she said leaving the office. On the way to the lighthouse Syd began thinking about what her mother had said in her dream and what Izzy had said at the clinic. "Maybe I am spending more time with Graham than normal." she thought. "But on the other hand he is nice to be around, and much friendlier after the surgery. He's actually kinda handsome and...." she thought. "Whoa! Stop there Syd. Don't get to close to a patient," she told herself aloud. When she got to the lighthouse she knocked on the door. "Hey," she said cheerfully when he opened the door. "Hey," he replied. "Listen, I was just going out for lunch. Do you wanna come along?" she asked hoping he'd say yes. She shrugged it off to her wanting to help him get over his fear of people. "Sure," he said shutting the door behind him. Later at the restaurant: "I want to thank you for everything you've done to help me," he started. "Hey, it's my job," she said smiling. "I think......I know you've gone above and beyond the call of duty for me. To thank you, I'd like to take you out to dinner tonight," he said. "You don't have to..." she started. "I want to," he interupted her. He gently placed his hand on top of hers. "You've done so much to help me, it's the least I can do. Besides, I always have dinner alone. I thought it'd be nice to have it with someone," he said smiling. "Well, I'm flattered. I'd love to have dinner with you tonight," she said smiling back. "Okay. How about meeting me at the lighthouse at 7:00." "Okay. Should I dress up or will it be informal?" she asked. "Where whatever you want." Syd finished her work at the clinic and went home. "I thought you were gonna be late," Joanie said when she walked through the door. "Well, there's been a change of plans. Dinner plans actually," she said smiling. "Oh, big dinner date?" Joanie asked, wanting details. "I'm not sure," she said. Seiing the confused look on her sister's face she added, "Graham asked me to meet him at the lighthouse for dinner. I figured I'd come home and change first, because I'm not sure what he has planned." "Oh. So you're going on a date with Graham. Sounds to me like Dr. Syd is getting really close to her favorite patient!" Joanie said not being able to resist teasing her big sister. "He's not my favorite patient, and it is not a date! It's two adults having dinner together," she said getting defensive again. "If I had a nickle for everytime I heard that line. 'It's not a date, we're just spending time alone together in one of the most romantic places in Providence!' Yeah right! Just make sure you give me details when you get back. If you get back!" she said following her sister to the guest house. "Joanie! It's not a date. I can't help it that lighthouses are romantic and we happen to be having dinner there. Well, are you going to help me pick out a dress or what?" she asked. "So, if it's not a date, then why are you getting all dressed up?" she asked looking through her closet. "Well, maybe I do sort of have a thing for Graham. Just don't tell anyone!" she said smiling. "I knew it! You've been spending way to much time with him." "Well, how do I look?" she asked after putting her dress on. "If he's any type of man and looks at you in that, you'll have him wrapped around your finger in 5 seconds!" Joanie exclaimed. "I take it that's good," she said getting her purse. "Very good. Good luck and tells me all the details when you get back!" Joanie said. When Syd got to the lighthouse she checked her hair and makeup in the car's mirror before she got out. She knocked on the door and was greeted by a different looking Graham. "You cut your hair!" she exclaimed. "Is that good or bad?" he asked. "I think it looks great," she said smiling. "Thank you. Let me take your coat," he said being the perfect gentleman. "Wow, it looks wonderful in here." "Here," he said handing her some flowers. "They're beautiful!" she exclaimed. "Beautiful flowers for a beautiful lady," he said kissing her cheek. She could feel herself blush. After a few seconds of awkward silence she said, "So what's for dinner?" Well that was part one. I'll have part 2 up soon. But first you have to tell me how you liked this part. |
