What does being "saved" or "born again" mean?
We are all sinners, every one of us have sinned against God. The bible says "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) and "Therefore just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned"
(Romans 5:12)
After reading those scriptures you would think there wasnt any hope for us right? Well because of the love God has for us he sent us hope. He sent his Son to die for all our sins, to save us.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
Isnt that awesome to know that you are loved so much by God that He sent His Son to die for you? Could you do that? Could you let your child die for someone elses sins? Most likely not! Its not something we could ever imagine. But thats just it, Gods love for us goes beyond our own comprehension.
So what does it mean to be born again? "That if you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord!' and believe God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9)
Then you need to repent of your sins, confess them to God, and ask for forgiveness.
What does Repent mean?
The word repent means to turn around and go in a different direction. It means a change of life and mind toward God.The bible says, "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." (Acts 3:19) "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"
(1 John 1:9)
What is Sin?
Sin means to miss the mark.The failure of a person to live the life which God has planned for him. The bible says "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23) The person who lives without God in this life will pay the awful price of an eternity separated from God. The bible calls this place of separation hell. Hell was never meant to be the eternal dwelling of man-kind, but God could not allow rebellious people to enter into heaven. Heaven is the eternal dwelling of Gods people, and it is a place where God lives in perfect harmony with His people. So because God loves us so much He does not want to spend eternity without us, and even though we are sinners he gave us another chance to spend eternity with him by sending His Son to die for us. "For Christ died for sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in body but made alive by the spirit." (1 Peter 3:18)
Now that I have explained to you how very much God loves you and wants to share eternity with you, are you ready to accept him as your Lord and Savior? "And now what are you waiting for? Get up be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on His name" (Acts22:16)
I will recap all the steps to salvation in Jesus Christ and then give you the opportunity to pray a prayer of salvation.....
1.Admit that God has not been first place in your life and ask God to forgive your sins.
2.Believe that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that He rose again, and is alive today.
3.Accept God's free gift of salvation. Don't try to earn it or think that you deserve it.
4.Invite Jesus Christ to come into your life and be the Lord of your life.
You can take these steps by praying a simple prayer of commitment to God:
Dear Jesus, I thank You for giving me life and that you created me to live eternally. I thank You for loving me, even when I've ignored You and gone my way. I know now that I need You in my life, and I'm sorry for my sin. I ask your forgiveness. Thank You for dying on the cross for me. As much as I know how, I want to follow you and serve You. Please come into my life and make me a new person.I accept your gift of salvation and ask that You will help me to grow in my understanding of your will for my life. Amen.
