The early-morning shift of Mangusta engine installers consisted of Bill Santos, (pictured at the right), and John Bentley, to help Steve (on the left) swing the engine into place. The 302 is now fitted with 351 Aussie 2V heads that have received a little bit of work by Powerheads. (www.Powerheads.com) The roller rockers activate hardened valves, and the inhale flows via a "Street Boss" intake. To make the engine install possible, the gullwings and center bar over the hatch have been removed. Initially the ZF tranny was pulled out with the gullwings in place.
The engine was lowered into place. Steve learned it might be easier to install the clutch assembly AFTER the engine has been installed. There is definately an order to this process, and Steve learned much of this the hard way. The frame rails were treated to a fresh coat of paint the day before, and were "sensitive" to minor bumping while the engine was positioned. Once the engine was fitted, the early team moved on to let the next team get a little work done.

Steve provides a loving tap to put the one-piece cast bellhousing in place. Steve commented that at this point it is beginning to look like a car again!
