Introduction
On a night in mid-August of 1999, my girlfriend and I sat down in a crowded sold-out theatre to watch a movie called “The Blair Witch Project.” Having never seen any trailers, and knowing virtually nothing about the movie beforehand, the two of us had no idea that we were about to have one of the most frightening experiences of our lives. I knew that the movie wasn’t “real,” but had only discovered that shortly before seeing the film. I neglected to tell this to my girlfriend. By the time Mike and Heather stumbled upon that old house in the woods at the end of the movie, the two of us felt sick, and not from the shaky camera movements. We were sick with fear. Afterwards, I told her the movie wasn’t true, but the impact of the realism still stuck with both of us.
Still frightened from the movie, she insisted that I come into her house with her for a little while. We walked in and flicked the light switch just as the bulb burned out with a flash! Well, the two of us scrambled for the nearest lamp as fast as we could, and sat for a while talking. When I eventually went home to my own dark house, I logged on to blairwitch.com and scared myself even further as I read one of the most frightening and elaborate back stories ever created for a movie. From that moment, I was hooked. Since then, I’ve tried to get my hands on everything I can that contributes to this mythology.
The genesis of this timeline came out of the necessity to keep all of the stories straight and in context. More books, comics and games were coming out all the time, and I soon realized that a document such as this didn’t exist anywhere on the Internet. The standard chronology found on the official webpage has been copied verbatim on numerous fanpages, but no one has seemed to try and amalgamate all of the stories into one comprehensive source. I figured I wasn’t the only one that would be interested in such a thing, so I've decided to polish my timeline up and make it available to other Blair Witch fans. However, since it's a rather large document, I'll be posting it in installments. Check back every day as I add a little at a time.
And here you have it. Enjoy! You can send any comments, additions, corrections, questions, or whatever, to me at [email protected].

| Note: |
Many of the entries in this chronology are based on different perceptions, or tales of what may or may not have “really” happened. For the sake of completeness of the legend, I have assumed everything to be true, as told. If there is a strong suspicion that some events may not have happened, I’ve made a note as such. If two sources directly contradict one another, I have subjectively chosen what I believe to be the most reliable and made a note of varying information. Also take note that these files contain SPOILERS. If you don’t want to know everything that has happened in the Blair Witch mythology, don’t read this! |
