"This Really Happened" Chapter 1 Stacey Heart turned off the engine in her silver BMW Z3. She sat for a moment checking her makeup in the rearview mirror. Once she was satisfied with the reflection, she stepped out of the car, her black heels clicking on the pavement. She adjusted the silver framed sunglasses on her nose. Morning beautiful, Stacey whispered to herself. She opened the door to Green Valley High School ready for another day. Instantly she was greeted with the every day sounds of her high school. Being the senior that she was, she ignored it all. She turned the corner to go to her locker but instead smacked into someone. Im so sorry, the person said. Stacey stepped back and looked the person over. He was six foot something and was dressed in jeans and a black sweatshirt. She didnt recognize him. Its okay, Stacey brushed him off and walked quickly to her locker. She is so gorgeous and perfect, the guy, Jacob Underwood, thought. And I ran right into her. Jacob continued on to his first period class watching carefully where he walked. Stacey sat in her first hour journalism class thinking about Jacob. I wonder who he is and why Ive never seen him before. Unseen to those around her, Stacey struggled silently with her popularity. Being well liked and very friendly, Stacey was arguably the most popular girl in the school. Dan Miller, her male counterpart, was her best friend. Stacey wanted to get to know the guy she had run into earlier, but didnt know how. She didnt even know his name. Pushing a blonde curl out of her face, she tried to concentrate on the work at hand. * * * * So, some guy ran into you this morning and now you want to be best friends with him? Dan asked Stacey. Yeah, Stacey said paying for her Big Mac and fries. Do you even know the guy? Dan said as he took the bag of burgers and walked toward the door. Um, no, Stacey said biting her lip. Stace! Do you even know his name, at least? Dan opened the door of his red Jeep. Nope, Stacey climbed in the passengers side and ate a few fires. Youre just too nice to everyone. Thats why you want to be friends with him, Dan started the car. They werent even out of the parking lot when Stacey screamed, There! Thats him! Dan slammed on the brakes. What in the world? Stacey! Are you trying to get us killed? Stacey ignored his comments. Thats the guy I ran into this morning! She pointed to a guy who was walking up to the McDonalds. You mean Jacob Underwood? Dan said as he calmly turned the car out of the parking lot. You know who he is? Stacey asked amazed. He sits in the back of our English class, Dan explained. Hmmm, Stacey thought about this. And Ive never seen him before. Guess not, Dan said as he drove back to the school. Stacey ate her fries in a daze. How had she never seen this guy before? She thought she knew everyone, especially the people in her classes. Today she would have to pay a little more attention to the people in her English class.
