Figuring It Out Chapter 7: The Convo Mama, I said. Dad. Adam moved around uncomfortably. He knew all too well what was coming, but I was still oblivious to the heartache that surrounded me. My father cleared his throat while my mother twisted her hands together. Son, my father said matter of factly. What is going on? And dont say nothing because I know theres more to it than that, I said getting to my point. Your mother and I are my fathers voice broke. I just stared at him. I had never seen this kind of emotion on his face or in his voice. Where was this coming from? Are what? I prompted almost wishing I hadnt. Maybe I didnt want to know. Are getting divorced, he finished avoiding my eyes. The words hit me like a ton of bricks into a glass window. My life shattered all at once. This was something I would have never expected. I grasped to understand it. What? I blinked at my tears. I must have made a sudden movement because Jenna had woken up. She saw the fear and pain in my eyes and sat up. Son, it was coming for a long time, my dad said. My mother sat crying silently. No, dont tell me this! I stood up. Dont. Dan? Jenna asked alarmed. Whats going on? You see those two people who call themselves my parents? I pointed at them. Theyve decided to get divorced. I watched Jennas shocked expression spread over her face. She covered her mouth with her hand. Oh my gosh, she whispered. Yeah thats what I said, I told her. Jenna stood up and hugged me. Oh Danny, its okay. Its okay. No Jenna, to hell with its okay! Its not okay! I screamed. What in the hell are you guys thinking? Dan, calm yourself down! my father stood up and screamed right back at me. No, father, I will not calm down, I said. Who are you to tell me to calm down? I am so out of here! I stormed out of the room unable to comprehend what had just happened. I heard Jennas soft footsteps following me. I had walked out the front door and into the street. I stopped allowing her to catch up. Danny, she whispered taking my hand in hers. Jenna, I said moving closer to her. She was the only one who made me feel complete. With her I could get through anything. She played with my wedding band twisting it around my finger. Im so sorry, Dan, she looked up into my eyes. Yeah me too, I said. Jen, I dont want you to think less of me because of how I acted in there. Oh, Dan, dont worry, she replied her voice genuine. I would have acted the same way. We have to get out of here, I said not thinking clearly. I cant stay here. Ill go wherever you want me to, Jenna replied. Lets do it then. We went back inside and got our stuff. I said a quick goodbye to my family and we left. Jenna said nothing more of the situation. She would follow me wherever and I knew that. Lets get a plane back to Orlando, I suggested. Sure thing, Jenna replied as she pulled out her cell phone and made reservations on the next flight out. */\*/\*/\* |
