It Should've Been Easy Epilogue: I Showed Her
It's catching up to me right now
Everything that I said
The night I left her there
Dan sulked around for months after Rachel left her management position. He kept replaying all their little fights and arguments back in his head. They tortured him. He knew that everything he had yelled at her for was just out of jealousy. He wished there was something he could do to make her come back to him.
When I said I wanted out
I was angry and upset
Dan, Trevor said standing in his doorway. Dan.
Dan looked up to see Trevor standing there staring at him. Yeah.
Ive been calling you for almost two minutes, Trevor walked into the room.
Oh, sorry, Dan mumbled not making an attempt to get up from his bed.
Trevor sat down on the foot of his bed and looked at his band mate. Still thinking about her?
How did you know? Dan asked sarcastically.
Shes gone. Shes never coming back. Theres nothing left for you to do, Trevor told him.
I didnt mean it, Trev. I didnt mean anything I said to her. I love her and shell never know that, Dan said miserably.
And at the time I couldn't care
Less about staying there
I had to prove I didn't care
As much as she thought I did
Then why did you fight with her so much? You knew she liked you and you sure as hell liked her. Why did you make it hard on her and make her read between the lines? Why did you make her choose? Trevor asked sternly. Dan, you didnt love her enough to let her go.
I showed her
I let my pride take me
Far away from the
Only woman I loved
Its not like I meant to hurt her. I hurt too, Dan shook his head. Doesnt anyone care that I got hurt in this too?
Yeah, but your pride doesnt hurt as much as it hurt her, Trevor made his point loud and clear.
Dan knew he was right. He could never admit that Trevor was right though. His pride wasnt about to let him do it.
I showed her
And now she has found someone new
And her life will go on
And I'm all alone but
I showed her
Dan, she has Josh now. Actually she had Josh before but you didnt realize that he was more important to her until it was too late. You thought that she would choose you over anything, but you were wrong. She didnt need you. Shes moved on, Trevor knew his words were hitting Dan where it hurt.
I hear that she's in love
But it took a while for her
To get over the hurt
If it makes you feel any better, I keep in touch with her. After she left, it was hard on her. She and Josh almost split up because she couldnt handle the pain that she felt from walking out on you. But Josh kept her strong and helped her through that dark time. Could you have done that, Dan? Could you have helped her to get over someone else that she really loved? Trevor asked pointedly.
Dan thought about it for a few minutes. I guess I couldnt have. She meant so much to me and just knowing that I had won her affections would make my ego inflate. I wouldnt have been there for her when she needed me.
Now I know that I messed up
I was trying to give us time
I guess you learned the hard way, Trevor said.
Yeah, I guess I did, Dan agreed. I just wanted to give it time to make sure that we could make it work.
It didnt work though, Trevor stated.
But I see she took that time
To find somebody else
No, it didnt. She got Josh and I got nothing out of all that time we wasted.
What happened to the things she felt
For me, am I really
A part of her past?
And now Im just a memory. A bad memory at that, Dan put his head in his hands.
No, the two of you had good times. You were friends before you developed feelings for each other. And no one can take away the good memories that the two of you have.
I showed her
I let my pride take me
Far away from the
Only woman I loved
I showed her
And now she has found someone new
And her life will go on
And I'm all alone but
I showed her
But shes still gone, Dan said quietly.
Shes still gone, Trevor echoed.
I wish she wasnt, Dan said.
Theres nothing left for you to do, Trevor replied.
Now she has found someone new
And her life will go on
And I'm all alone
I showed her
Shes moved on. Her life has gone on. You need to let go and move on with your life too, Trevor tried to give Dan a pep talk.
But Im all alone, Dan said meekly.
Youre not all alone, Trevor said. Were always here for you and somewhere theres the right girl for you. Youll find her someday.
Someday soon I hope, Dan replied.
Someday very soon, Trevor smiled. Hey, I met this really great girl the other day. Youd like her.
Whys that? Dan asked.
Because her name is Rachel, Trevor said trying to lighten the mood.
Dan groaned. It is not.
No, its not. I was just messing with you.
I miss Rachel, Dan muttered under his breath.
Me too, Trevor replied. Me too.
I showed her
