Mandragora is as far from her father's appearance as one child can get, while others in his family line stay closer to the blackbottom and tan-skinned features. His nephews I'x and R'aph fly as nav-guilders, and yet others serve in weyrs as records keepers.
Bonding at the age of 13, to a predictably brown dragon, M'drake has lived up to the expectations of a wing leader -- he pushes himself and his dragon to their limits, and still has room for more at the end of the day. The ease which he has in flying runs in the family.
While he and Alnaeth rode as wing leaders in their fighting wing, now that they have retired from active duty their Search potential has started to show. They have a knack, just like his father before him, of finding good bonder candidates. So it is likely that the 56 year old rider and his 43 year old dragon will continue in service to the Protectorate for a long time to come. They've been around and seen a lot of things, and like many in their line, they have an ability to sense 'between', the realm of the dead.
They usually pay it no thought.
Alnaeth is a sturdy and forceful dragon. How else would they have risen to Wing Leader by the time they'd been bonded for 5 years? While it is true that they started out as wing riders, then Seconds, their own wing was offered, the Burning Pillar wing, and they stuck with it for decades.
