We advocate on behalf of the children and families in Ontario. One of the biggest problem is that the children's aid society overwhelms a family with pages and pages of documents, some dated as far back as 15 years. Most families have legal aid lawyer and the lawyers can only bill very little hours to legal aid. So they really don't have the time to go over each page with their client and make an effective responce to the affidavits. The lawyers have no choice but to leave it to their client to make affidavits and reply to court papers on their own. When these parents are handed 300 plus pages of documents, where do they start? The children are gone and now their only hope is to go thoroughly through these pages and find the answers.
We work with families and go through the 100's of pages of court documents. We thoroughly investigate for inconsistencies and make sure their rights haven't been violated. We assist the family through the affidavits, replies to affidavits, and assist the families put forth their own affidavits. We provide the families with insight and are willing to work along side of them to ensure that they have an effective responce to the affidavits that they've received. We also assist the families with getting their stories onto paper, provide the families with community resources to get the programs needed to help alleviate the CAS' concerns, and we are strongly committed to the best interests of the children and their families, not our bank accounts.
We are not lawyers, we can not and will not give legal advise. We have researched 100's of cases and have the resources to help the families obtain the help needed to ensure their children are returned to them expeditiously. Unless the CAS has legitimate safety concerns, if that is the case, we'll work with family to alleviate those concerns.
We also ensure the integrity of the CAS is in check. Make sure they are doing their job and staying within the Child and Family Services act in which governs them.
Furthermore, we protect the rights of the children and their families. We also provide the families with encouragement that just because their children have been apprehended; it doesn't mean it's over. We give these families a chance for a successful outcome, with all the great effort, that we've worked towords together.....
We not funded by the government, CAS, legal aid, or any lawyers. We have to be unbiased and allow no opinion to effect our goals or performance. Whether we help 10 families or 1000's of families, we still only get our funding by the White Ribbon Campaign, private and business sponsorship, and other funding solutions such as benefit dinners, community bar-b-q in which we inform the public on what we do, how we can help, and what they can do to help. We also invite the local MPP to join in the activities, which gives them a chance to get involved and to get out in the community to participate in a forum to get input from the public on issues that matter to the public. We are solely dependent on the public and business sector for funding. Please give generously.
