| My name has changed a few times since I first started rapping. Nowadays I just go by Proph. Proph is just short for Prophet, they've always called me that for a nickname anyway so it was just natural to go with it. Here is a list of my former names and the meanings behind them. | ||||||
| Prophecy- Prophecy was my first real rap name, I went through a couple before that but I can't remember them really, I was just trying em out. I came up with Prophecy early on in my freshman year, before anyone even knew that I rapped. I actually saw the word in a Shakespeare play we were reading in English class and I thought it sounded like it would make a good rap name. The more I thought about it, the more it fit me. A lot of my songs were dealing with the future and the past and I began reading the future by looking at the past. To others, it was prophecizing even though it was just studying our history. Eventually, Prophecy became me. I started seeing small glimpses of the future which have saved my ass on a number of occasions. By the time I switched my name, I really had the ability to see into the future, obviously not knowing every thing but sometimes seeing important moments, especially in dreams or daydreams. I think a lot of it came from knowing the past and knowing people so I could predict things accurately. Unfortunately, way too many rappers have the name Prophecy so I decided I woud need to change it. Biblical Prophet- This actually started off as a name of one of my early songs, it was a punchlines track and I think I said biblical prophet in the chorus so that becaem the title. I liked the sound of it so later wrote a new song with that title on a war themed bagpipe instrumental. It was a crazy song, kind of like some Canibus type shit and it ended up becoming one of my nicknames while I was still Prophecy. When I dropped Prophecy, I used Biblical Prophet and came with a deeper meaning to it. I was rapping about the end, no matter what subject the song was. Punchlines I was ending your career, love song I wanted to be with her in the end, life I wanted to make it in the end, political issues we were bringing the end on ourselves. The most important prophecies in the bible are about the end, revelations. I was prophecizing the end and was usually right. Now when one calls himself a biblical prophet, he is speaking against God and is therefore a false prophet. So this was almost like a slap in the face of religion, all religion so I loved the name. Kartofilus- This is another name I go by now, also taken from religious aspects. The name comes from a story of a Roman gatekeeper named Cartophillus. When Jesus was carrying his cross through the streets, he fell to his knees in front of the gatekeeper and asked for a drink of water, Cartophillus spit at him. In return, Jesus cursed him to live forever until mankind brought the apocolypse on itself, Cartophillus had to suffer through all the ages of man and all of our mistakes and could never die until we all died. I use this name because of my anti-religious views and although I don't believe Jesus ever even really existed, I feel the name gets my point across. And like Cartophillus, I hope my songs can last through all the ages of mankind until eventually, we destroy ourselves. |
