| Happy Birthday Well, another 4th of July has passed. Independence Day! Independence from what? The reasons in the history texts, and the Declaration of Independence, break it down to taxation and the right to pursue happiness. Whos happiness ?, and what taxes?. Gather around boys and girls ole grandpa has a story to tell. Back in the good ole bad days, the thirteen colonies decided at the motivation of the rich, land owning white male Protestants would shrug off the chains of oppression, the Empire of Great Britain. Granted, corrupt colonial governors and the Royal Army werent that well liked. The taxes and the troops were here to defend the Empire, and you guessed it, this was part of that far flung Empire. So these upstarts wrote a document which gave birth to a nation, and a revolution to hold onto it. The revolution was like Vietnam to the British. Nobody wanted the war, and it was costly. The colonists never really won anything, the Crown just got tired of the body count and the expenditure on the treasury. Enter in other parts of the equation; the British were already at it with the French back on the Continent. The manpower and the money were needed there, not at some backwater hole on the other side of the planet. Thus the control shifted from a tyrant four thousand miles away, to a gang of thieves down the block. This bunch of freedom fighters gave us what we now have today. Our inheritance is based on this lie of democracy. Over the course of the last two hundred and twenty five years, the concept of extending freedom has been an ongoing process. At first, only that pack of thieves could vote and decide the destiny of others. After a bit, (oh, about seventy some odd years later) the right to vote was extended to the sons of the poor whites that had done the dying in the revolution. Then came the African American males, after a bloody four year war over economics and states rights, only because by granting them citizenship and thus the right to vote, they could fight and die. It wasnt until about eighty years ago that women were given the right to vote through suffrage. Then there is the eradication and assimilation of the native people.... So this is freedom? [I havent even begun to write.] The long road which we still are on to egalitarian reality, idealized by so many, is paved with the dirty little secrets that has made this country grrr-eat. Granted, this country is a far cry from some of the backwater hell holes Ive visited and lived in, but it is not the best thing going. To believe that is just naive and ignorant. Look at the current state of affairs and then ask yourself, What the hell did we celebrate for this past month? Answer: Two hundred and twenty five years of sedated slavery and exploitation. OFFICIAL COMMUNIQU ATTENTION!!! AUGUST 6th IS THE 56th ANNIVERSARY OF HIROSHIMA, THE DROPPING OF THE FIRST ATOMIC BOMB IN ARMED CONFLICT. IT HERALDED IN THE INFORMATION AGE, AND THE DEATH OF THE INDUSTRIAL AGE. THIS DAY IS THE BELOVED NEW YEARS DAY OF THE REVOLUTION. CELEBRATE AND HONOR THIS DAY, IT IS THE PAST FROM WHICH THE FUTURE WILL BE BUILT. CHE DAMMERUNG BRIGADIER, XIIIth SHOCK LEGION |
