Finding the right dress for cheap
If prom time comes and you find yourself with little more than a pocket full of change, don't worry. There are plenty of places you can score a great prom dress without spending a ton of money. The first place is your local vintage or consignment shop where you just might find the perfect prom dress (or whatever you plan on wearing), costing anywhere from $10-$80. The next place you might try is a discount store like Ross, Marshall's, or Mervyn's.
They don't usually carry traditional formals, but you could find items for less than department stores with prices ranging from $20-$80. Another resource to consider is the Internet. Click on the links in the top right to browse prom dresses offered by some of the top online stores. One drawback is that you have no guarantee that what you see is what you get, or if your prom dress will fit. Another option is to make it. If you, or someone you know sews, getting the perfect prom dress is as easy as buying the pattern and fabric. Fabric should cost around $50, depending on the type of dress you are making. If you pay someone to make your prom dress, it might move your price up into the next category.
