Standing at only 14.0hh, Blackhead doesn't look rather impressive. His conformation isn't all that beautiful - in fact, he's pretty much as ugly as sin - a grand-nephew of the great John Henry himself, he looks strikingly similar to his mulish uncle. His head is overly large, his feet overly crooked, and his withers are practically non-existant. He's a tank, a pigeon-toed tank.

His success on the racetrack has left spectators mystified. He's a black cannon on the straight-aways, playing on the bit and yet still managing to pull away to blow the competition out of the water by several furlongs. He's a sprinter, yet with the right jockey, can adjust to long distance.
