| Ozone depletion what a terrible thing. The ozone, what is it you ask? Simple the ozone is a molecule of 3 oxygen atoms therefore has the formula O3. Ozone was first discovered and seen by a German scientist by the name Christian Friedrich Schonbein in 1839. It seems that the ozone is a pale blue color and can be unstable. Ozone can be created when electrical discharge passes through oxygen gas. The weird thing is that ozone that is several miles into the atmosphere it protects us from harmful rays. When it is close to ground it is a very harmful pollutant.Scientist have seen that the harmful ozone is getting more and more in our breathing air harming us more. The helpful ozone is getting less and less decreasing our protection from the sun. As you can see it can be simple but also a BIG concern to our health if it is to close or is going away. Whether or not you care we just think you should know what the ozone is and whats going on in this world. |
| Where is this going on you ask? Well this ozone is depleting in several places across the world north ,south ,east ,and west. The most well known and the most talked about would probably be the one in Antarctica. The ozone hole is forming over Antarctica which is a big concern because less ozone the higher the temperature, and the temperature the more thing melt. Antarctica is mostly ice and if the ice melted we would lose fresh water and sea level would rise considerably. That is the same concern that is going on in the Artic where a hole is likely to occur. Another is in Europe. This is a big concern becuase if a hole appears here millons will be exposed to the deadly radiation. If this radiation occurs the animals and plants will also die off. The last that is known well of is the one in South America. In South America the ozone hole is in the southern part but it is still a concern becuase here it endangers hundreds of thousands. |
