As I drove home to pack my bags I thought about John. We had once been the best of, friends, usually where one was the other wasn't far away. We never meant to fall to each others arms, but when we did realize what we had was unique and irreplaceable Cyn got pregnant and John felt he had to do the right thing and marry her. We went on as friends for another year and a half, and we ended in blaze that still stuns me silent to this day. John was saying that we could go on like this, but I wanted even deserved more than to share a bed with him on tour or some nights back in England. We screamed at each other, he went one way and I went the other both too stubborn to admit they were wrong and too stubborn to stay in touch. John being the first to break down and call and I just trying to forget the hurt that I still felt regularly. And here I sat looking out at the dark rain slicked highway getting ready to pack suitcases for a trip that I knew I shouldn't be going on in the first place, I could never resist John and always seemed getting hurt by giving in to the feeling. He was right, seeing him after two long years seemed only days ago that I had seen him and that's what scared me so much about going off with him because if years felt like days that meant that he as well as I, still felt love for each other.
I pulled up to the gates of my house, rolled down my window and quickly pushed in the 5 digit code to open the gates. I drove up to the house, jumped out of the car and ran up to the door to my house. It was a lonely house with only one person living in it, my father and mother left the house and a large amount of money to me when they died in a plane crash going to Germany when I was only four-years-old. Along with the house in England, was a house on one of the privately owned Bahaman islands, a private jet, and an array of classic cars. I was their only child, there for alone in the world with no other family, my nanny Grace had taken care of me until I was old enough to be on my own. I met John in 1957, when I was 17 while playing guitar for Jessie and the Rickets. We had had a band gig and John and his band the Quarry men were on the same bill as us that night, I remember he was so intrigued with a bird that could play guitar, like it was unknown for a girl to play guitar.
We hit it off right then and started hanging out together, I invited John, Paul, and George to come over to my house. They called me 2 hours later saying they couldn't find my place because I had given them the wrong address so I recited it again and John had said there must have been some mistake because I couldn't possibly live in a fucken mansion, I told them that I did and went over and picked them up, took them to my house and they shit a brick when I brought them in. They all asked me why I had hung out in run down clubs when I was part of the upper crust, I simply told them because I liked the people, the rock & roll, and being somewhere that I wasn't treated as higher society because I never felt that I was.
I set my keys down and ran up the stairs to the master bedroom and grabbed my suitcases out of the closet. We had decided to go to my other house on Bwahi, a small private owned island that held about 16 or so other houses, so John and I wouldn't be pestered by crowds. As soon as I was done packing I went to bed to get some rest. John and I would be leaving in the morning after he talked to the others.
11:00 am Friday morning
I awoke the next morning from the phone ringing, ripping me from a dream riddled sleep. *ring ring ring* I reached my hand over from under the covers and picked up the receiver
"Hello" I said in a rough morning voice.
"Good morning Sun shine," Said an overly joyous John Lennon.
"Mmm, good morning" I hadn't realized how much I missed waking up to that voice in my ear, this trip was going to be even tougher on me then I thought.
"I didn't wake you, did I?" He asked.
"Yeah, you did what time is it?" I said still fighting sleep and the urge to tell John that I missed his voice in the morning.
"Why, it's 11'O, I figured you would be up."
"Sorry bout that I meant to get up earlier, what time did you want to leave today?"
"Well, I guess when ever you decide to get going. But there is something else I wanted to talk to you about." He said sound a bit weary. Oh no what now, I thought what is he going to spring on me now.
"Oh and what is it you need to talk to me about?"
"Well, I was wondering if I could bring a couple of people along on the trip with us."
"I think that would be a great idea, who you got in mind?" I said while thinking this could be what we needed, someone there to chaperone stuff we did, but as John said who he was bringing my plan caved in.
"When I talked to Geo about the trip he asked if he and Patty could come, I didn't think it was a problem so I told him to go ahead and pack their bags. He doesn't know that your going, but I'm sure he will be happy to see you again he missed you when you left." He said. So much for a chaperone on this trip, he always thought that John and I should be together and always pressed for it to happen. I was on my own, still I was really excited by the idea of seeing George again I hadn't seen him since John and I split up. He was a really good friend of mine, I had talked to him after me and John and he tried to get me to go back to John, but I wouldn't and after that it was too painful to hear him talk about John so we quit talking after a while.
"That's great John, I haven't seen him in a while. Well, I'm going to get up and catch a shower after I call Lana to get my plane ready."
"OK, well I'm on my way over to your house, I'll call George and Pattie when I get there."
"I'll see you when you get here then bye." I hung up the phone and dialed Lana's number.
"Hello" came Lana's voice.
"Hey Lan can you do me a favor?"
"Sure, what's up Sunnie."
"Well, I need you to ready my plane for four people because I'm taking off to Bwahi this afternoon."
"I can do that, did you need a pilot or are you flying yourself?"
"Yeah, go ahead and set me up with a pilot, I don't feel like flying it myself today."
"OK, I'll see you in a couple hours then."
"Yeah, bye Lana."
"Bye, Sun." I put the phone down on the receiver
all the while thinking about laying back down to catch some more
sleep. I jumped out of bed banishing the thought of a day of loafing
in bed. I grabbed some shorts and a T-shirt keeping it simple
because it was going to be hot in Bwahi. As I was jumping into
the shower the doorbell rang, I stopped what I was doing wondering
who it could be. It couldn't have been John because it was almost
an hours drive over here, but then again if it was John driving;
it probably was him. I threw on my blue silk robe and ran down
the stairs to answer the door. My thoughts were blurred at the
moment because there stood a very sexy looking
John, in sandals, no socks, tight black jean shorts showing off
a nice package and a white T-shirt sunglasses on top of his head,
with suitcases in tow. I shook the thought of Johns package from
my mind and realized I had been staring and hadn't invited him
in
"Oh, hey John come on in."
"Sorry, it took so long." He said lugging in three large suitcases, a guitar, and a backpack, thank god not noticing my staring.
"Long, you must have set some kind of record what did you do go 200 miles and hour to get here."
"Sun, I'm not that reckless, it was only 155 mph"
"Oh, I guess that makes it all right." I said laughing at John's driving, that man never could drive.
"Damn Sun, you look pretty good fer just wakin up." He said eying my thigh length blue robe. I looked up stunned at what he had said, it was already starting. We just couldn't resist each other. Fighting that old feeling, "Well, you better call Geo and tell 'im to get his arse over here." I said changing the subject to something else besides my skimpy attire.
"I do believe you are trying to change the subject on me, but yes your right I will get right on that." He said wiggling his eyebrows and walking past me. I shut the door and walked up stairs to get in the shower so we could leave to pick up George and Pattie. Five minutes into my shower I heard John outside the door, "Hey Sunnie." He yelled.
"What John, I can't hear you." He stepped into the bathroom and said "There has been a change in plans."
"What now?" I said wondering what the problem was now.
"George and Pattie had a huge row, so it's just George, you, and I going, I told him I would pick 'im up in a while. He still doesn't know it's you, he's gonna shit when we get there."
"Ok, that's fine. I think I can handle the two of you." John started laughing.
"I'm sure you can luv, I'm sure you can!" His voice trailed off and as I was about to tell him to get his mind out of the gutter, I noticed he had already walked out the door. I peaked out just to make sure John wasn't still in there with me, so as not to give a peep show. I stepped out of the shower and went to grab for my towel yet it wasn't anywhere. I could have swore that I put it right on the shelf.as I was looking for it I wasn't aware of someone watching me until I caught the face out of the corner of my eye. There stood John holding a towel out to me, grinning ear to ear "John, give me that fucking towel and get your arse out of here" I screamed in shock! I grabbed the towel and shut the door, I heard him laughing outside the door as he walked out of the room. That little shit, I quickly got dressed, and walked out the door so we could get going.
"Hey Sun, your not mad at me are you?" John said trying to keep a straight face.
"No, Lennon, but just remember I don't get mad I get even."
"Oooh, you got me scared now." He said shaking while he laughed it up.
"You better be, So are you ready yet, or am I going to have to leave with out yeh."
"I'm ready, twas I who was waiten on you."
John and I headed out the door and jumped into my car and sped off to George's house. The ride there was pretty quiet except for the constant rhythm being pumped out of the car radio, and John and I singing along to the songs that came on. We pulled up to Geo's house and rang him from outside of the gates.
"George, let me in man." John yelled from the passenger side in to the little intercom.
"All right, will yah hold on." Came George's voice from the little box, the gates swung open and we pulled in to the driveway. As we got out of the car, for some reason, I was feeling butterflies in my stomach. It had been a long time since I had seen Geo, I hoped he wasn't mad at me for losing touch with him, then again that goes two ways. We walked up to the door and as I was about to knock, the door swung open and there stood George in a T-shirt and jeans. His mouth fell open as his eye's stared at me. After the shock was over he pulled me in for a bear hug.
"God, Sunnie! I've missed you so much, I didn't think I'd get to see you again." He said as tears of happiness rolled down both his and my cheeks.
"I know it's been long, and I've missed you a lot too." As we broke from the hug that seemed to be crushing my ribs, he stared at me then at John and then back at me. With a big grin on his face he said "So it's John and Sunnie again?"
"No." I corrected him "it's Sunnie and John as Just Friends." He smiled again, took me into another hug and whispered in my ear. "We'll see about that luv, we'll see."
He let go of me and invited us in.
"Geo, where is yer fucken luggage" John said pointing out Geo's lag.
"Christ John, shut yer gob, they're up stairs. If you weren't such a loaf you would come and help me get 'em."
"'Ey man, I already lugged mine to Sunnie's house get yer own bags." John said laughingly at George. George flipped him off, and ran up stairs to retrieve his bags.
We packed George's things into my car making it a tight fit because of John's things and mine. Geo squeezed into the back of my car sitting by two suitcases and a bag, as we took off to the airport to catch our private jet.
"So what are you up to these days, Sunnie?" George asked.
"Oh, not much just playing the stock market, and dabbling in music same as always."
"Anyone in yer life, like a boyfriend or somethin'?" He asked, god I knew he would ask, it was already starting Geo was on his old mission again.
"Why, are you looking for a new girlfriend?" I asked avoiding his question.
"Nah, just wonderin.so get on and answer the question."
"Alright you win no, I'm still single and not looking. Happy?"
"Quite, you know John here is." He said already throwing John's name my way.
"George stop right there, this is a friends only trip, got it!" I said.
"Ahh, sure what ever you say Sunnie, you know me I neva butt in."
"Yeah, right Geo."
"Ey I had ta try, didn't I."
"Yeah, whatever." I said laughing at him.
We made it to the airport in about 20 minutes, John and George put on there disguises so they wouldn't be recognized, and walked into terminal where I had customer service page Lana. It was about five minutes later that I seen Lana come walking up.
"Hey, Lan." I said waving her over to us.
"Hi Sun." She stopped and her mouth dropped at the sight of John and George standing there in disguises.
"God, it's been ages since I've seen you two. How are you guys." She said hugging both John and George.
"We're good and you?" They both chimed happy to see an old friend.
"I'm wonderful as always. So where's the fourth party at Sun?" She asked noticing only three of us standing there.
"Umm she couldn't make it." George said looking down at the ground.
"Ok, that's no problem, so are you guys ready to take off."
"Yeah, but ah Lana" I said.
"what" she said giving me a knowing look.
"Can we skip security?" I said because I had some incriminating things with me and I know John and George did to, I knew it wouldn't be a problem.
"You know you can, come on you guys lets get you to your plane." We walked down to gate 124 to board our plane carefully by passing security.
Once we got on the plane we settled in, it was a small private jet with only twelve seats, six seats on one side and six on the other side all facing each other with a table in between, a bar up front, a TV, and a bathroom. I took a seat and laid back shutting my eyes awaiting the plane to take off. Still not believing that I was with John and George not because they were beatles, not because I thought I must be lucky, but because I didn't think I would see them again. They were once my two best friends and it went away before we could even say goodbye. I missed them much and my life just wasn't the same after loosing them, I hurt day in and day out because I loved John and I hurt even worse because Geo wasn't there to make it better. I didn't really have a plan to keep myself from rekindling the love that I still felt for John, god what was I going to do, maybe I should just relax and go with it, but could I risk it.
I was awakened from my thoughts when I thought I smelled the pungent odor of cannabis. I opened my eyes to see George rolling some marijuana into a paper. He brought the joint up to his lips and licked the end of the paper so it would stick. He looked up at me grinning and tossed it over to me.
"Take a whiff of that Sunnie, it's good shit, it'll ground yah too. Only bad side of this stuff is that munchies I hope that fridge is stocked." George said with a laugh.
"That good huh, I've got some pretty good stuff myself in my bag, you'll have to try it when we get to the island." I then noticed John wasn't anywhere in site "Hey, where'd Johnny take off to?"
"John's in the Johnhee hee I made a joke." He said laughing.
"Did you already smoke some of that." I said laughing with him. There was a jolt of the plane as it started to move. Good we were taking off. I looked up and noticed George staring at me.
"What?" I said.
"Sun, can you do something for me or at least promise me something." He said now serious.
"I don't know George, it depends what do you want?" I already knew what he wanted was about John and me.
"Can you just give John a chance, he's changed a lot in the past couple a years, he still love you, you know. Just say you'll be there for 'im."
"George, I cant promise you I'll give him a chance, but I can promise you that I will be there for him no matter what. I won't let this friend ship go now that I have a second chance to be his friend. I still love him too, but it hurts too much to take that jump again. I will see that's the best I can do."
"Thank you Sunnie." Just as George said that John came walking out of that bathroom.
"Thanks fer what?" John questioned Geo
.
"For 'elpin me roll this joint what else." George said
holding up the joint.
"Bull shit, but anyway if yah don't want to say then I'll jus' keep me nose out of it." John said then changed the subject "so are you gonna light that thing or are you just watch and see if it grows." George lit the joint and took a long hit and handed over to John who did the same then passed it to me we let it go around the circle until it was too tiny to smoke.
I sat back letting my high catch up to me when John got up "I could go for a drink, do you guys want one."
"I'll help you John." I got up from my seat and Geo followed suit. John was rummaging through the fridge while George watched me make my drink "hey John is there any milk in there?" I asked, he handed it to me and I grabbed a cup put some ice in it and started pouring some Kalua in to my cup and adding some Irish cream to it "is there a coke in there."
"Yeah here," John emerged and handed me the coke "what the 'ell are you maken besides a mess."
I smirked and said it was called a duck fart. George made a grimacing face "Sounds disgusting what is it?"
"It's just the name of the drink, don't knock it until you've tried it." I finished the drink by adding a small amount of coke, milk and crown royal. I stirred it with a straw and took a drink of it.
"Here take a drink it's good tastes like chocolate milk." I said handing the drink to him. Geo to a swig off of it and smiled "Mmm, that's good will you make me one. John you've got to try this." George handed John the drink and got the same reaction. "Your right, make me one too."
I smiled as I started making two more masterpieces. "Glad you guys like it." We walked over and sat down this time John took the seat next to me. I sat there sipping my drink thinking of what George had said to me when I noticed my drink was gone, I set the empty glass down.
"Sun are you alright?" came Johns gentle voice next to me.
"Yeah, I just have a lot on my mind." I said trying to assure him.
"Why don't you lay back and get some rest before we get to the island."
I sat there thinking about sleep "Your right, a nap would do me some good." I sat back and shut my eyes and let my mind wander in to a sleep. I awoke to some turbulence to see that we still hadn't made it to the island yet noticing a weight on my shoulder and looked over, John's head was on my shoulder, he looked so peaceful asleep, it made me remember all the nights that we had spent together in the past. It wasn't bad with John and he still had my heart maybe I should give him a chance he's not with Cyn anymore. I sat there staring at his face, his eye's fluttered, and he opened them staring back into my eyes. My heart was racing and I felt my head tip forward and touch John's soft lips. I didn't move my mouth away nor did he "WE WILL BE LANDING SOON PLEASE BUCKLE YOUR SEAT BELTS." Startled we broke from the kiss and moved back to fasten our seat belts. George awoke and sat up rubbing his eyes. "We're there already." He looked up at us "hey what's with you too." John and I hadn't said a word and were both looking away from each other.
"Nothing." I said. "Just woke up."
With that the plane started it's decent down to the runway. Everyone was silent, George because he was still confused and John and I because we didn't know what just happened and it was better to leave things unspoken for a while.
The plane landed and as we collected our luggage, I walked over to the small airport building to collect my keys.
