Pop-culture
Dress
In the 50's women wore poodle-skirts, petticoats, saddle shoes, bobby socks, ponytails. Men wore the traditional cool boy look: just like Fonzie. Black boots, motorcycle jackets, slicked back hair, dungarees, cool white t-shirts, and sideburns were all very fashionable during the 1950's.
Hula-hooping was a huge fad in the 1950's. People would have contests and children would spin their Hula Hoop as long as they could.
Cars
  • In 1950 the US produced 65% of the world's cars.
  • Cars were large and very nice.
  • Gasoline was less than 10 cents a gallon.
  • The cars were sometimes more grand than the houses, in poor neighborhoods.
  • The biggest seller was the German Volkswagon- that would be the Beetle.
  • Drive in movies were very popular.
