Elvis Presley became the teen heart-throb of the '50s by starting rock 'n' roll on its way.
Rosa Parks sat in the front of a bus, which was reserved for white people.  She refused to get up, and was arrested.

The trade ban with China was passed by President Truman on December 8, 1950.  It lasted until February 2nd, 1953.
The last United States atomic bomb test was performed in Nevada on February 6th, 1951.
The 22nd Amendment was passed on February 26th, 1951.  This amendment limits the amount of terms that a President can serve to two.
In December of 1950, the 29th, electricity was produced by a nuclear reactor.   This put the weapon for war, to peace, and to work to help us.
US tests it's first H-bomb in the Pacific.   It was the most powerful bomb ever made, tested on November 1, 1952.
October 14, 1952, the United Nations opened the first General Assembly.   It was opened in New York.

On December 25, 1950, Chinese invaded Tibet.
In 1950, in South Africa, whites were to be kept separate from the non-whites because of the government policy of apartheid.
On December 31, 1950, the first direct military battle of the Cold War, where events seemed to be "happening" In June North Korea invaded South Korea.
Vietnam was divided into 2 different countries on February 7th 1950.
On June,30 1950, Catholics were persecuted in Hungary. Priests were arrested, the Cardinal was sentanced to life in prison, and churches were closed.
Dalai Lama gave China control of the Tibetan army May 27, 1951.
July 20, 1951 King Abdullah of Jordan was asassinated in Jerusalem.
October 26, 1951 Winston Churchill was elected the British Prime minister
On July 16, 1951 Caudouin was crowned the king of the Belgians.
In 1952, the Soviets removed the missles from Cuba.
King George VI dies February 6, 1951.
On July 26, 1952 Evita Peron, Argentina's first lady died of cancer; She was only 33.
In London there were 10 days of horrible smog in December 1952; It was the was the worst smog problem they had ever known and 2,000 people died because of respiratory problems; Smog masks were issued and people could not even see a hand in front of their faces.
Stalin died March 5, 1953.
May 29, 1953, 2 men made it to the top of Mount Everest.
On June 2, 1953 Queen Elizabeth II was crowned; The date was chosen as the most consistently sunny day of the year; That day it rained.
In October of 1956; was the great opening for the nuclear power plant in Cumbria, England; It was opened by Queen Elizabeth.
Fidel Castro overthrows Batista when he declares a new government for Cuba in January 1959.
Queen Elizabeth opened the St. Lawrence Seaway in June of 1959.
Brussel was host to the World Exhibition, which started on the 17th of April 1958.
Sports
In Soccer on June 28, 1950 England lose 0-1 in the World Cup in Brazil to the U.S.
Giuseppe Farina won the first World Drivers' Championship at Silverstone in 1950.
On September 24, 1953 Rocky Marciana, a heavy weight champion, wins keeping the world heavyweight boxing title.
On July 3, 1953, Maureen Connolly ("Little Moe") is the first woman to win the British, US, Austrakuan, and French championships, in one year.
On May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister (25) broke the 4 minute mile record. He ran it in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds.
Rocco Marciano retires undefeated in 1956.
In February 1956, Toni Sailer, a skier, won all 3 gold metals.
In September of 1956 there was finally a different Olympic event for the horseriding competitions.
Disasters
On January 29, 1950, there were 3 big earthquakes in Southern Iran killing over 1,000 people and injuring 1,500.Twenty cities and villages were destroyed and the capital city was also affected.
On August 13, 1953, over 1,000 people were killed by earthquakes and tidal waves in the Greek Islands.
February 3, 1953 the Netherlands had a huge flood disaster killing over 1,000 people.
A Manchester United plane crashed on the 6th of February, 1958.The plane had been carrying the English soccer team, and seven of its members died.
