Background:
Gunner (Gunn or Gunny to friends only) was born under a Harvest Moon in 1971. His parents were Gypsies living in New York, NY. They died when he was 13. CSD picked him up and basically saved him from a life of crime. He was sent to a very good foster home where he learned that the life he had led wasn't the only one open to him.
He changed his last name from Roshmein to Kates so his former family would not be able to find him. Kates has the inbred ability to know almost to the exact number of hostiles in a 30-ft radius. It comes from what he has dubbed his Gypsy sight. It doesn't always work, hence his dead parents, but it has kept him alive on the deadly streets of New York City.
He knows how to speak Romaine {the Gypsy language}, German, some Russian, Egyptian, and two other dead languages.
Gunner is by faith a Pagan, which the Military looks down on, so he keeps his religion mostly to himself. He is listed as being Wiccan on his dog tags though.
