Project H.E.A.L. Meeting Minutes for February 21st, 2008
**About Project HEAL
-Project HEAL was started in winter of 2005.  It is a UCD club whose main goal is to help animals through fundraising and volunteering with the Yolo County Animal Shelter, Yolo County SPCA, and other local animal welfare groups.

-Membership dues are $10 for a full year or, if you would like a trial of the club, $5 for one quarter.  Please give your dues to Tracy.  Membership cards will be given to those who pay dues.

-Project HEAL T-Shirts will be on sale for $5.  If you are a dues paying member you can purchase a Project HEAL T-Shirt for only $3.

-2008 Yolo County SPCA calendars are on sale for $7.50.

-At upcoming meetings, we will have small tasks from the YCSPCA to work on, so that you can volunteer while you find out new information.

-It is important to attend meetings so you will always be up-to-date with new information about upcoming events.

**Fundraising
-Fundraising is one of the most important ways we can help animal welfare groups and is essential for Project HEAL, which is why volunteering for fundraisers is crucial.

- Many fundraising events will be held at the Mondavi Center, where we will work the concessions area during performances.  These events are a lot of fun and are a great way to raise money.  The Mondavi event for Winter Quarter will be held on Friday, March 7th.  The fundraiser will be in the evening and will probably last until about 10pm.  There is a strict dress code for Mondavi fundraisers that includes a white, long-sleeved shirt with a collar, black close-toed shoes, and black pants.  Please contact Tracy if you would like to volunteer ([email protected]).

-If you sign up for a Mondavi fundraising night, you must attend.  If the club does not provide the number of people at the event that it signed up for, then the club will be fined.  So if you sign up, please show up for the event.  If you do not show up, then you will be responsible for paying the fine.

-If you have any suggestions for fundraisers, please contact Tracy.

**Yolo County SPCA
-Petco Placement is a great volunteer opportunity.  Petco is located in the Marketplace on Sycamore and Covell.  Volunteering there will give you a chance to help YCSPCA dogs and cats find adopted homes.  You can help set up, sit with dogs and socialize cats, and occasionally help with adoption paperwork.  Petco Placement is held most Saturdays from 11:30 to 4:00, but please check the Project HEAL website (http://www.geocities.com/project_heal_ucd) for Saturdays the YCSPCA will be there.  Please contact Samantha if you are interested in volunteering ([email protected]).

-For anyone who lives in a place that allows animals and would like to help puppies, dogs, kittens, and/or cats get adopted, the YCSPCA offers you the opportunity to become a foster parent. The YCSPCA is a foster based organization and, as such, does not have a shelter. However, they do often take animals from the Yolo County Animal Shelter and place them in foster homes. The more foster homes they have, the more animals they can rescue! If you think you would be interested in fostering, you can get an adoption application (there is not a separate application for foster homes) at PetCo during Placement or download one from the YCSPCA website (http://yolospca.org) and turn it in to one of the adoption coordinators. A few general requirements for fostering are that any roommates agree to let you foster and that your landlord allows pets. If you have questions about fostering, please contact Leslie ([email protected]).

-Feral Cat Clinics, located in Solano and Sacramento, are generally held once a month and provide a great opportunity for anyone who is pre-vet.  This is an excellent great way to get hands on experience and learn more about veterinary medicine.  You will be volunteering with the YCSPCA at the clinics and should contact Samantha if you are interested ([email protected]).

-The Yolo County SPCA has a thrift store located on 3rd and I Street.  There are some great SPCA shirts that you can purchase there and all money spent there goes to the YCSPCA. They are currently looking for volunteers.

-You can also join the SPCA for $10 a year.  SPCA members receive some great member benefits such as discounts at the thrift store and reduced registration fees for the Doggone Walk-A-Thon.

-The SPCA has many committees, such as Newsletter, Fundraising, Membership, Education, etc., which are looking for new members.  If you are interested, please contact Leslie ([email protected]).

**Yolo County Animal Shelter
-The Yolo County Animal Shelter is another fun place to volunteer.  You can work with dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. In order to volunteer, you need to fill out an application and attend an orientation. If you would like to volunteer, please get an application and email Lisette ([email protected]) so she can coordinate an orientation time.

-If you cannot get to the shelter on your own, Lisette goes on Saturdays and would be happy to give you a ride.

**Upcoming Events
-The Doggone Walk-A-Thon will be held May 3rd.  This is an important event, which will need many volunteers.  Volunteers are needed to help with planning and on the day of the event.  If you are interested, please contact Leslie ([email protected]).

-The Mondavi Center Fundraiser will be on Friday, March 7th.  Please check above, under Fundraising, for more information.

-Please check the Project HEAL website.  Meeting times, Petco Saturdays, and more will be posted.
