Project: H.E.A.L. Meeting Minutes for November 5th, 2007:
**About Project HEAL
-Project HEAL was started in winter of 2005.  It is a UCD club whose main goal is to help animals through fundraising and volunteering with the Yolo County Animal Shelter, Yolo County SPCA, and other local animal welfare groups.

-Membership dues are $10 for a full year or, if you would like a trial of the club, $5 for one quarter.  Please give your dues to Tracy.  Membership cards will be given to those who pay dues.

-Project HEAL T-Shirts will be on sale for $5.  If you are a dues paying member you can purchase a Project HEAL T-Shirt for only $3.

-It is important to attend meetings so you will always be up-to-date with new information about upcoming events.

**Yolo County SPCA
-Petco Placement is a great volunteer opportunity.  Petco is located in the Marketplace on Sycamore and Covell.  You can take the Unitrans G and J lines or the YoloBus 42A/B to get there.  Volunteering there will give you a chance to help YCSPCA dogs and cats find adopted homes.  You can help set up, sit with dogs and socialize cats, and occasionally help with adoption paperwork.  Petco Placement is held most Saturdays from 11:30 to 4:00, but please check the Project HEAL website (http://www.geocities.com/project_heal_ucd) for Saturdays the YCSPCA will be there.

-For anyone who lives in a place that allows animals and would like to help puppies, dogs, kittens, and/or cats get adopted, the YCSPCA offers you the opportunity to become a foster parent. The YCSPCA is a foster based organization and, as such, does not have a shelter. However, they do often take animals from the Yolo County Animal Shelter and place them in foster homes. The more foster homes they have, the more animals they can rescue! If you think you would be interested in fostering, you can get an adoption application (there is not a separate application for foster homes) at PetCo during Placement or download one from the YCSPCA website (http://yolospca.org) and turn it in to one of the adoption coordinators. A few general requirements for fostering are that any roommates agree to let you foster and that your landlord allows pets. If you have questions about fostering, please contact Leslie.  [email protected]

-Feral Cat Clinics, located in Solano and Sacramento, are generally held once a month on Sundays and provide a great opportunity for anyone who is pre-vet.  This is an excellent great way to get hands on experience and learn more about veterinary medicine.  You will be volunteering with the YCSPCA at the clinics and should contact Samantha if you are interested.  [email protected]

**Yolo County Animal Shelter
-The Yolo County Animal Shelter is another fun place to volunteer.  You can work with dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. In order to volunteer, you need to fill out an application and attend an orientation. If you would like to volunteer, please get an application and email Lisette so she can coordinate an orientation time.

-The Shelter is located in Woodland.  It is possible to get to the shelter by taking the YoloBus, but Lisette goes on Saturdays and would be happy to give you a ride.  [email protected]

**Fundraising
-Fundraising is one of the most important ways we can help animal welfare groups and is essential for Project HEAL, which is why volunteering for fundraisers is crucial.

-We would like to do a Basketball Concessions Fundraiser at the Pavilion on January 19th at 5pm.  The only dress code for this event is a white shirt and closed-toed shoes.  Jeans are perfectly acceptable.  This event will be a lot of fun and will be making money for the club at the same time.  Please email Tracy to sign up.  [email protected]
- We would like to do a Mondavi Fundraiser on Sunday, February 10th at 5pm.  There is a strict dress code for Mondavi fundraisers that includes a white, long-sleeved shirt with a collar, black close-toed shoes, and black pants.  These events are a lot of fun and are a great way to raise money.  Please email Tracy to sign up.  [email protected]

-If you sign up for a Concessions or Mondavi fundraising night, you must attend.  If the club does not provide the number of people at the event that it signed up for, then the club will be fined.  So if you sign up, please show up for the event.  We dont want to discourage you from signing up, but you will be held responsible if you do not follow through with the commitment.  You will receive numerous reminders of the event.

**Upcoming Events
- There will be an Emergency Animal Rescue Service Volunteer Training Workshop" on Saturday, December 8th in Sacramento.  There is a $50 registration fee but scholarships will be offered at the workshop.  Carpools will be available for those who need them.  Contact Leslie for more information.  [email protected]

-The last meeting of the quarter will be a social event, held on Thursday, November 29th at 6:30pm at Leslies house.  Directions will be emailed out closer to the event.

-Please check the Project HEAL website.  Meeting times, Petco Saturdays, and more will be posted.

-Please feel free to email the officers if you have any questions.
