A lot of people don't realize that Jesus is not some guy made up to go along with Christianity, he was, and is, a living person. He was born in a tiny town called Bethlahem over 2000 years ago. Our dating records even go by Jesus himself. B.C. is simply Before Christ, and A.D. translating to "In the Year of Our Lord." Jesus was born in an unlikely place, to an unlikely mother, and he would lead a very short, but Earth moving life of about 33 years. Jesus was born to a virgin named Mary, a woman pure of heart and soul. The events surrounding the birth of Jesus were quite hectic, as everyone had begun to talk of a saviour being born. The birth of Christ had been told long before he got here, and so there were many who were expecting it. If you've ever seen a Christmas play you know how the wise men followed the star and brought Jesus gifts and about the angel coming to tell them all about how special Jesus really was. But, everything wasn't all glorious and wonderful for long. Soon after Jesus was born there was a stir in the land, and the King didn't like it. HE was the king, and didn't want anyone to be higher than himself. So he ordered all newborn males to be killed hoping it would end Jesus. His plan failed horribly. God wasn't going to allow Jesus to be taken care of that easily. Mary and Joseph (Earth father to Jesus) set out to hide where they would be safe. They raised Jesus in Nazareth until he was a man. Like Joseph, Jesus took up carpentry, and was well known for his excellent crafstmanship long before he was known as a healer and the saviour of man. In fact, his ministries didn't begin until he was about 30 years old. When he started, however, he started with ferocity. Jesus began working for God in a way nobody had ever seen. Not only did he heal the sick, but brought the dead to life, turned water to wine, walked ON water, fed 5,000 hungry people with only a few fishes and a little bit of bread, and then later he himself would rise from the dead. All this was too much for some locals to take after a while. They began to talk and to conspire against Jesus, trying to find some way to get him. They finally caught Jesus, healing someone on the Sabbath, something they did not see as acceptable. Jesus was sentenced to death and nailed to a cross, stabbed, given vinegar to drink, spat upon, and had a crown of thorns jammed onto his head. Not only that but he had the weight of all the worlds sin that ever had been or ever was to be on him. Every lie told, every murder, every lustful thought, was on his shoulders, causing him a pain you or I could never imagine. When Jesus died, there was darkness for 3 days. Many people think he was just dead for 3 days then came back to life, but there is much more. Jesus himself, went to Hell and engaged in a battle with Satan himself, and defeated him to get the key of life. That, by the way, is a metaphor, not an actual key like in a video game. Jesus suffered so we could have salvation. Before him priests had to sacrifice lambs and goats to wash away sin. But because of Jesus dying for us, we now need only to ask. And it is that simple. Some people are afraid to ask or to pray because they don't know what to say, but it's just as if you were talking to someone sitting right next to you. Just open up your heart and your mind and spill everything. There's nothing you could say god doesn't already know, so don't be afraid. Because of Jesus, your sins can be forgiven... |
