Brian May wrote this beautiful song... Freddie sang this with all his soul.
This song proves just how great Freddy Mercury is.
So what if he was gay.... big deal?
Freddy will always be one of the greatest! if not the greatest singer ever, no one will change that, trust me, they cant.
Look, paul rodgers is great with bad company, no denying his talent, but queen without freddy can and never will be queen, he is the missing piece, those four just fit, they complete each other, and just like zepplin with out john bonham, anything else is only less, freddy was one of a kind, and without him queen has lost its magic
The quality of todays music as a whole will never amount to something as epic as this.
On your day Freddie,... we remember.
Some more information from Wikipedia:
Freddie Mercury 5 September 1946 24 November 1991) was a Zanzibar-born British musician, best known as the lead singer and co-founder of the rock band Queen.
Regarded as one of the greatest singers in rock music.
As a songwriter, he composed many international hits.
Spanish soprano Montserrat Caball, with whom Mercury recorded an album, expressed her opinion that "the difference between Freddie and almost all the other rock stars was that he was selling the voice."
US rock singer Billy Squier, with whom Mercury wrote two songs for in the mid-1980s said in an interview that Mercury indeed 'sang sharp'.
Freddie Mercury possessed a very distinctive voice, including a recorded range of four octaves (E2 to E6). Mercury also claimed never to have had any formal training and suffered from vocal fold nodules.
Mercury also tended to write musically complex material.
Despite the fact that Mercury often wrote very intricate harmonies, he also claimed that he could barely read music.
Mercury played the piano in many of Queen's most popular songs.
Queen guitarist Brian May claims that Mercury was unimpressed with his own abilities at the piano and used the instrument less over time.
In the early 1970s Mercury had a long-term relationship with a girlfriend named Mary Austin. He lived with Austin for many years. However, by the mid-1970s, the singer began an affair with a male record executive at Elektra Records; this ultimately resulted in the end of his relationship with Austin. Mercury and Austin nevertheless remained close friends through the years, with Mercury often referring to her as his only true friend. Mercury was also the godfather of Mary's eldest son, Richard.
In 1985 he began another long-term relationship with a hairdresser named Jim Hutton. Hutton, who himself tested HIV-positive in 1990,lived with Mercury for the last six years of his life, nursed him during his illness and was present at his bedside when he died. Hutton also claims that Mercury died wearing a wedding band that Hutton had given him.
Although he cultivated a very flamboyant stage personality, several sources refer to Mercury as having been very shy in person. He also granted very few interviews. Mercury once said of himself: "When I'm performing I'm an extrovert, yet inside I'm a completely different man."
According to his partner Jim Hutton, Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS in the spring of 1987. Around that time, Mercury also claimed in an interview to have tested negative for the virus. Despite the denials, the British press pursued the rampant rumours over the next few years, fuelled by Mercury's increasingly gaunt appearance, Queen's absence from touring, and reports from former lovers to various tabloid journals.Toward the end of his life, he was routinely stalked by photographers, while the daily tabloid newspaper The Sun featured a series of articles claiming that he was seriously ill.
On 22 November 1991, Mercury called Queen's manager Jim Beach over to his Kensington home, to discuss a public statement.
A little over 24 hours after issuing the statement, Mercury died on 24 November 1991 at the age of 45.
He has been criticised for having kept his ethnicity, as well as his sexual orientation and HIV status, a secret from the public.
In his will Mercury left the vast majority of his wealth, including his home and recording royalties, to Mary Austin, and the remainder to his parents and sister.
Freddie Mercury's death represented an important event in the history of AIDS. In the spring of 1992, the remaining members of Queen founded The Mercury Phoenix Trust.
As of 2005, according to The Guinness Book of World Records, Queen albums have spent a total of 1,322 weeks or 27 years on the United Kingdom album charts; more time than any other musical act including The Beatles and Elvis Presley.
In 2006, the Greatest Hits album was found to be the United Kingdom's all-time best selling album, with sales upwards of 5,407,587 copies, over 604,295 more copies than its nearest competitor, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
One of rock's most successful, influential and popular acts, the band has released a total of 18 number one albums, 18 number one singles, and 10 number one DVDs worldwide making them one of the world's best-selling music artists.
Their total album sales have been estimated at over 300 million worldwide.
Mercury was voted second to Mariah Carey in MTV's 22 Greatest Voices in Music.

The Great Pretender (Video)
I'm normally not a fan of classic covers, but Freddie did this song proud. He put his own spin on it with his unique style.
Simply amazing...he will always be remembered! The best singer ever in my opinion. He looks so different without the moustache! Definetly younger! What an amazing voice... his moves are legendary.
In this year (1987), he became sick by aids
This song was absolutely about him (pretending that I'm doing well). That was an obvious giveaway about his AIDS secret (although it wasn't until after he died), and I guess that was his way of letting it out without actually telling everyone.
